I just celebrated my first week birthday so I know how much fun birthdays can be – my dad tells me this one is a slightly bigger deal than just a week though. I really wish I could be in Boston to celebrate with my Grandma Jill, but instead I’ll just have to send my birthday wishes from afar.
Seriously, these make my mouth water - and I don't even eat solids yet!
So I haven’t met her yet, but I’m pretty sure my Aunt Elyssa is about as cool an aunt as one can hope to get. I’m definitely a lucky girl. Not only has she promised to do lots of cool stuff with me (I mean, french toast for dinner?? Does it get better than that?) – but she also came up with a cupcake recipe that she dedicated in honor of my birth!
(PS – I have no idea what lip liner is, but it definitely sounds like something my dad isn’t going to let me have for about 18 years… which makes my Aunt Elyssa even that much cooler!)
Hey everybody – this is Maile. I picked up typing over the last few days and thought I’d write this post myself.
I had quite a surprise waiting for me when I woke up this morning. Apparently, my Grandpa Cal caught a “red eye” flight from Hawaii to come see me. Sure enough when I woke up at 7 AM he was already here.
Now, my dad went to pick up Grandpa and went back to bed when he got home – so we don’t have any pictures of our actual first meeting. Instead we staged a “re-enactment” a few hours later after dad woke up.
Re-enactment of meeting Grandpa Cal
I had a great day hanging out with my Grandpa. We went for a walk, we watched Tom Watson choke, we listened to the Red Sox game (tough loss, but Lester pitched great), he helped my dad change the light bulbs (even climbed up a ladder!), he grilled us lamb (or at least I think that was lamb I tasted during my evening feeding) – but mostly he held me a bunch, which was quite awesome!
So now I’ve met all 4 of my grandparents – I can already tell that I am definitely a lucky girl and can’t wait to spend more time with them!
After a busy first week, Dad and Maile catch some zzz's
Wow – what a first week. Click the photo above for some more pictures from the last few days. Or click here.
Some highlights:
Met some more family members – including my Uncle Steve and Auntie Nao and cousins Katie and Emily via iChat. Maile can’t wait to play with the girls in Hawaii at Christmas – I have a feeling there will be plenty of mischief in the years ahead!
Met my first friend – Allison Schwartz. Maile Trivia: Matt’s first friend was Mark Schwartz and Maile’s first friend is Allison Schwartz. No relation, but clearly the Schwartz is with us… (okay that was awful, I apologize…)
Lots of firsts – including my first bath and first swing – but most importantly, my first “longer than 2 hours nap” – Mom and Dad are very happy with that one!
Hard to believe its already been a week – the time has flown by! Maile grows and changes every day before our eyes – we’re at the beginning of an amazing journey and couldn’t be more excited about our little girl.
Grandma Gail has been a big help since Maile was born and we’ve quickly learned that Maile absolutely loves her lullabies. We’re going to need to record them before Grandma Gail returns to Hawaii!
Can you guess which is Maile's and which is dad's?
I can’t believe Maile is already 5 days old! Click the image above for slide show of her first five days. (Or click here).
NOTE: There are captions with the pictures. If you can’t see them, click Options in the upper right and make sure “Always Show Title and Description” is checked.
Maile accomplished A LOT over the past 5 days – some highlights:
Said good bye to all the great people at CPMC and headed home!
(Maile Trivia: first song that played on the radio in the car ride home? Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen! Truth.)
Spent some quality time with my Grandma Gail, Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike – Maile and her grandparents hit it off perfectly – a lot of love in the air!
“Met” Grandpa Cal and Auntie Elyssa through the wonders of video chat – Maile can’t wait to meet them in person soon!
Polished off about 50 diapers (conservative estimate)
In true Koidin fashion, made an early adventure to the doctor’s office (a day before my scheduled appointment) because mom and dad were worried about some “plumbing” issues. After some deft work with a thermometer (use your imagination), all is well and Maile was a very happy camper!
Went for her first walk on the streets of San Francisco – Maile thought the city had potential, she’s happy to be here.
Passed her first (official) doctor’s appointment with flying colors!
Met some new friends – and was an all around pleasure with company (except when Megan and Josh came by who are expecting a friend for Maile shortly – to make sure they knew what they were getting into, Maile melted down a bit…)
It’s been a busy few days, but we’ve had plenty of family quality time too. Everyone is doing really well – mom and dad are tired, but absolutely having a blast figuring things out with their new baby girl!
Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike pretty much think Maile is the best thing ever … and very advanced for her age. At the rate they are going, I don’t think they’ll be surprised if Maile is driving the car by the time they come back in August!
