I’m getting bigger now so I can fit into some of my more “fun” onesies. My daddy loves this one – he was laughing all day.
Perhaps that is why he did this:
Umm... this doesn't feel right daddy...
This doesn’t bode well for when I get a bit older. If he can’t figure out a onesie, how’s he going to handle something like a blouse?
(Dad note: I honestly didn’t do this on purpose. And I didn’t notice until I got the first button snapped and it felt a little off. It immediately reminded me of when wearing shorts over your sweatpants was “cool” in elementary school circa the mid-1980’s. Like Josh Brolin’s character in Goonies … or this girl:
What a great week with Grandma Jill & Grandpa Mike!
If I look a little sad in the picture above its only because my Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike left today. I had an amazing week with them. Mommy and daddy both say I grew up a lot this week and started interacting a lot more. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I’m sure Grandma Jill will say otherwise.
I can’t wait to see them again in November on their home turf!
On Saturday night Maile hit another big milestone – she moved out. Well, out of our bedroom that is. Since she came home from the hospital, Maile had been sleeping in our room. She spent the first couple nights in our bed and then transitioned over to a Pack N’ Play we set up. It worked out well, especially when Chris was getting up every couple hours to feed Maile. The con was that Maile is actually a noisy sleeper – I wouldn’t really call it snoring, more like grunting. We sleep pretty soundly so it didn’t bother us too much, but I’m sure we’ll sleep a bit better with out the baby chainsaw cranking away in the wee hours of the morning.
Now that she’s sleeping longer (4-5 hours at a clip most nights), we thought it was time for her to check out the bedroom we had so lovingly set up for her. Plus, let’s be honest, a 7 week old needs her space – she was getting super annoyed at us when Wills or Ferris would call to coo and she didn’t have any privacy.
She did great her first night and is half way through the second now. Of course, we are still figuring out the baby monitor – both nights we grabbed the not quite charged enough one and it decided to red alert us that the batteries were out in the middle of the night. Sweet.
Maile took a nap in her crib today and I tried to capture a video of her in full effect. Unfortunately, my “hey-the-baby-is-sleeping-you-need-whisper” voice level isn’t quite there yet, so I woke her up. Sound is a little soft on this one…
Wait, what's going on here? You're going out without me? NOOOOO!
With Grandma Jill in town, Chris and I decided to take advantage and hit the town for our first date night. We got all dressed up, made sure Grandma had a bottle of Chris’ finest, kissed our baby girl and headed out for an early dinner. I surprised Chris and took her to Boulevard – one of San Francisco’s best. I hadn’t been since college graduation – 9 years ago – and I was excited to go back with Chris.
A great date night meal at Boulevard!
We had a fantastic meal – the food was just as good as I remembered. They even gave us a little treat on our dessert congratulating us on making it through our first meal away from our girl. Of course, we mostly talked about Maile – but she’s a fun topic.
A nice touch to our dessert from our waiter...
Speaking of Maile, she and Grandma Jill did just fine. A few tears were shed and apparently four diapers were changed, but our little girl was just as we left her when we returned home. Grandma Jill hit the sack early, so I think its fair to say Maile kept her on her toes!
Hmm... you look familiar. We've met before, right?
I’m a lucky girl. As I mentioned previously, my Grandma Jill is here this week to visit me (and rumor has it my Grandpa Mike might be coming on Friday!) We’ve had a great time so far getting reacquainted. Apparently, I met her already when I was first born – but that whole period of my life is a bit hazy. I really remember nothing from weeks 1-3. Regardless, we’re becoming fast friends.
Grandma Jill is SUPER comfortable!
Grandma Jill has read to me, taken me on walks, introduced me to a “rattle” (very cool btw) and based on the smells in the house, she’s cooked my mommy and daddy some great meals. We’ve had lots of fun – and she’s going to watch me on Thursday night so mommy and daddy can have a “date night.” Once again, I’m a bit hazy on what a “date night” is all about – but according to my daddy its something I’m not allowed to do for awhile.
Grandma Jill arrived today! She’s here for the week to visit and help out since I’m going to be swamped with work (start of football season is always busy). In any event, Grandma Jill jumped right in and read Maile a book. It was a valiant effort despite the fact that Maile didn’t see too interested.
Later on, mommy decided to read Maile the Very Hungry Caterpillar – she heightened the degree of difficulty by reading it in Japanese! Maile actually came around on this one and started to get interested.
Moral of the story? Grandma Jill needs to learn Japanese!
Maile accompanied us on Friday night to Monaghan’s, our regular San Francisco happy hour spot. She did quite well – and even made some guy’s night who was there with his pregnant wife and thought his happy hour days were soon coming to an end!
