Growing up with a little of both and the lessons learned along the way

We’ve been working with Maile on lifting her head – due to genes, its quite big and heavy. In any event, generally she skips the head lift and concentrates on biting her arm instead. Mommy was filming some attempts and may have inadvertently captures Maile’s first roll. We’re not sure if its a true roll or just an arm bite gone bad, but we’ll take it for now!
Bonus video of tummy time and practice head lifts with mom and dad – we used to joke that our kids were going to be q-tips, skinny bodies with big, heavy heads – looks like its no joke!

Now this is what I call a bath!
Every once in awhile as a parent you figure something out and you feel like giving yourself a big pat on the back. Maile has absolutely been hating her bath. We knew we weren’t doing it quite right, she was cold and uncomfortable … and since she was so uncomfortable we were rushing it and not really giving her a good cleaning.
Part of the problem was definitely that until the umbilical cord fell off we couldn’t submerge her at all. Once that did, we tried dipping her in a small bucket in the sink, but our girl is just too big for that.
Today we pulled out the big guns and setup the bath tub (given to us by Ronna and Shelley M.) – great success! As the above picture can attest, Maile loved it. It was like she was in her own private spa!
BTW – The tub itself is pretty cool. It’s The First Year’s Infant To Toddler Tub with Sling – the sling is what really makes it. She just can sit back and relax and chill with enough of her body in the water that she stays warm.
So pat on the back for mom and dad today!

Hard to believe that we are fast approaching 1 month old! Christine and I were talking earlier this evening about how on one hand it feels like its going by so quickly, but on the other hand its hard to remember when Maile wasn’t here with us. I think its fair to say we are all adjusting, starting to figure things out and settling in quite well.
Maile had another great week – among the highlights:

Auntie Elyssa & Me
I woke up this morning and something was different around the apartment. My diaper was still wet and I was definitely hungry, but after I was fed and changed, there was someone missing. It took me a little bit, but I soon realized my Auntie Elyssa was no longer here! Major bummer! She arrived on Friday when my daddy went out of town and I thought she was here for good like all of those stuffed animals that hang out in my crib. Alas, not to be … but I know I did make a great friend forever and I can’t wait until our next visit!

(Dad Note: Elyssa cooked up a storm when she was here – and the food was amazing. Really, really good. If you haven’t already, definitely check out her blog for some good recipes and stories about food… Thank you Elyssa for taking care of my girls while I was away!)

Getting to know my mommy
It may not be obvious from the picture above, but I am intently staring at my mommy. She’s pretty neat to look at. I think right now I mostly like staring at her hair – I hope I have beautiful hair like hers when I get older.
With the exception of when I’m hanging out with my dad or a friend, I spend pretty much all my time with my mommy. We eat together (while I eat, she feeds me), we play together, she dresses me and bathes me, we listen to music and she sings and reads to me, she talks to me and even though I don’t know what she is saying, it sure sounds nice. We go for walks and my mommy plays with my hair (hence the mohawk I’ve been rocking for a few days). I get hugs and kisses too.
Life pretty much rocks with my mommy!
Relaxing with my mommy after another long day...

Hmm... this is a new perspective. Not sure what I should be doing - a little help?

Family Picture (Week 3)
Sorry to everyone for the lack of posting the past few days. I went out of town for the weekend to help two good friends celebrate their wedding. I was actually asked to be the officiant (check out the shot below for a view of the setup – it was an amazing time – congratulations, Gwen and Ben!)
Not a bad setup for a wedding, eh? (Minus the guy in the tux getting in the way...)
It was really hard to leave the girls, but I left them in good hands as Auntie Elyssa came in to meet Maile and help out for the weekend. Maile had plenty of adventures while Dad was away – we’ll catch up on the posts over the next few days. In the meantime, here’s one shot from yesterday of Maile. I definitely thought she looked a bit bigger when I got home and it had only been 4 days!
