Oh, How I’ve Grown

by Maile Girl on November 9, 2009

I’ll be 4 months old on Wednesday! Pretty exciting. I’ve changed in lots and lots of ways. I’ve also grown A LOT! We’ll get the full details at my doctor’s appointment on Wednesday, but check out the pictures below:

Mommy’s New Haircut

by Maile Girl on November 8, 2009

I swear, I’m not crying because of mommy’s new haircut. I really, really like it. Really. Total coincidence that as soon as she came home and I saw her for the first time, I burst into tears. It was that damn blue monkey – he said something scary to me right at the same moment. Truth.

Thursday Night Hang

by Maile Girl on November 5, 2009

I’ve been going to bed earlier and earlier (and also sleeping longer too…) I typically go to bed now between 7 and 7:30 PM. Before it was closer to 8:30 PM. It’s definitely good that I am getting more sleep, but it means less time to spend with mommy and daddy after they get home from work. Tonight though daddy came home a little early and we all had fun hanging out before I went to sleep. Here are some shots we took…

I'm being shy ... yeah, right!

I hope daddy isn't saying anything too important here because I don't fully understand english yet - I'll just laugh so he thinks I know what he is talking about...

The Training Begins…

Let me make sure I follow - I hold my arm out like this and that arrow thingy on the screen moves around?

If this is what my daddy does it must be cool.

Daddy spends a lot of time in front of this bright screen with lots of colors. I asked him to show me what its all about so he has started giving me lessons. I like sitting on his lap and watching the screen as he moves things around – its like magic. I’ve even started to copy his movements a little bit. He tells me I’ll be a “whiz” in not time – he smiles when he says it, so it must be a good thing.

(Dad Note: The pictures also show something we’ve been noticing more and more – Maile seems to reach for things with her left hand more than her right. Not sure yet if that means she’s going to be left-handed, but that’s the running theory in these parts…)

No fun getting all dressed up for Halloween without a party to go to. Luckily, Maile’s friend Allison convinced her parents to let her throw a little get together.

Here’s the lineup:

From left to right: Wills, Maile, Hannah and Allison

Wills was a farmer. As we’ve already discussed Maile was Totoro. Hannah was a pink rabbit and Allison was a cow. They were all ridiculously cute. But the expressions on each of their faces was hilarious. Check out the video below (or click here).

Hannah’s expression just completely cracked me up:

Seriously, what's up with this gray rat thing sitting next to me? And, oh dad, yeah, I'm going to remember this pink rabbit thing. Yes, yes I will.

If you still haven’t had enough of the babies and their costumes – here’s a whole bunch more pictures. Definitely a very successful first Halloween!

Maile Girl as Totoro!

Maile Girl as Totoro!

Maile was Totoro for Halloween!

(Mommy’s side of the family just giggled and said “aww that’s so adorable.” Daddy’s side of the family just nodded their heads and said, “riiiight… Totoro.”)

So to make sure we are all on the same page – Totoro is a character from a 1988 Japanese anime film called My Neighbor Totoro. The film was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki – who is basically the Japanese version of Walt Disney. Most important Totoro is one of Christine’s favorite anime films. Maile is already quite familiar with Totoro – although she hasn’t seen the movie yet, Totoro is in drawings Chrisitne made that hang over her crib.

Here’s a look at Totoro from the film:

And here’s a good picture of Maile in the Totoro outfit:

You can barely tell the difference, right? Which begs the question: where does one get such an authentic Totoro outfit? That’s the best part – Grandma Gail made it for Maile! How amazingly cool is that!?

So a big Totoro thank you to Grandma Gail for kicking Maile’s first Halloween off in style!
