From the monthly archives:
March 2010
(Dad note: I just want to thank Mommy K for holding down the fort on the blog while I was in Boston last week. I definitely missed my girls – technology is amazing though, we video chatted almost every day so I could to see all of the new tricks Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal were teaching Maile girl. Speaking of which…)
I think its fair to say that Maile will be ready for the new boys that will be born in the next several months!

When Maile went to bed on Friday night I told her I would have a surprise for her when she woke up on Saturday morning.
What was the surprise?
Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal had to head home today. But, boy did Maile have fun spending time with them! She got to hear a lot of stories.
Meal time was always a lot of fun!
It was so great to see them…I can’t wait until the next time!

Maile started eating solids right after her 5-month birthday. As you can tell from the blog, we have had fun documenting the process. The latest introduction to her diet was plums. Based on the pictures we are not quite sure if she likes or dislikes plums. You be the judge!
First stop sour plums, next stop li hing mui!

Daddy has been in Boston all week for work. I miss him a lot, but luckily I still get to see him every day using the computer. I’m not sure exactly how everything works, but mommy presses a few buttons and then all of sudden there daddy is talking to me on the computer screen.
Today when we were saying goodbye I decided to give daddy a big surprise and I waved to him! (I had waved before, but never on command). Just goes to show you how much I miss him!

Saturday was Maile’s first swimming lesson! We were sad that Daddy was in Boston and couldn’t come with us. But we made up for it by having Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal visiting SF. Just in time to help serve as Maile’s paparazzi. A special thanks to Grandma Jill and Grandma Gail who made sure I will be very fashionable at the pool.
When Maile got to the pool she had an extra surprise! Her friend Allison was in the same class. We are so excited we get to see her and her mommy Stephanie every week as we learn how to swim!
Look at Maile showing off her water skills! What a natural!
Maile’s swim instructor also gave Grandma and Grandpa a preview of our future swim lessons (unfortunately they can’t come up every week for her lessons). While not thrilled about this “advanced” lesson, I think she handled it like a champ!
We both had a great time at our lesson! And can’t wait to see what we learn next week!

On Wednesday we celebrated Maile’s very first Girls’ Day. Girl’s Day, or Hina Matsuri in Japan, is held every March 3rd. Hina Matsuri is the Japanese Doll Festival. In Japan, a set of ornamental dolls is put on display (check out Cousin Katie’s post from her very first Girls’ Day for more details).
Here in San Francisco, we used it as an opportunity to see how mommy’s first kimono was fitting. You may recall that Maile first wore the kimono on her 100th Day Birthday. Good news is it still fits and Maile was as cute as ever!

Since I’m older than Hannah (exactly one month to the day), I sometimes help Megan out by reading to her. Don’t tell Hannah, but I totally make up the stories as I go along. I mean, yes, I’m older, but I’m still only 7.5 months old. I can’t read silly!

Maile: See Hannah, that's a monkey and he's riding a yellow umbrella. Hannah: Why? Maile: How should I know? I can't read...

When I was born I received a really nice blanket as a gift. It was called a Taggie blanket and it has all these “fake” tags all over it. I guess some babies get distracted by these imposters. Not me. I’m very discerning in my tag consumption and I made sure I found the real thing. Corporate America can try to trick me with their fake products, but I’ll keep things real, thank you very much!
(Dad note: despite Maile not being fooled by the fake tag aspect, it is still a great blanket – very good quality. Recommended.)
