Now that she is 11 months old, Maile really just drifts off to sleep at night …

… this is pretty much the best way to come home from work! When I walk in the door, Maile drops what she is doing and rushes over to me. I love it.

Mommy has added “doing the dishes” to my list of chores. I can’t reach the sink, so instead I just hang down below and make sure she puts the dishes in correctly. Mommy assures me its a very important job.

Maile’s had a bad case of jet lag coming back from Hawaii. I think we are finally getting to the end of it – but she’s had a really hard time going to sleep at night and an even harder time staying awake in the morning (see above). Takes about 3 days for her to shake the jet lag, so hopefully she’ll be a back to normal starting tomorrow…

On Friday Maile turned 11 months old. As a testament to how old Maile is now, mommy and daddy both forgot that Friday was a big milestone! We didn’t realize until Megan wished Maile a happy birthday when she arrived at Hannah’s. (In fairness, we had a pretty crazy travel schedule and a jet lagged little girl that has been driving us a little crazy.) Still, I think it is true that the days and months are starting to run together a bit as we watch our little girl grow up.
When Maile was only a few weeks old I remember thinking how much I enjoyed her company then, but that it would only get better as she got older and was able to interact with us a bit more. We’re definitely at that stage now and it is fun to have actual interactions and be able to get Maile to respond to different things we do. I think I’ve been able to get this across in the blog, but Maile is quite the character and cracks us up continuously – she has the most amazing full face smile that I really hope she remembers how to employ because it just lights up the room when she busts it out.
One interesting thing is that it seems that more and more Maile knows what she wants (or more accurately, what she doesn’t want), but still has trouble communicating her desires to us. As we’ve shown previously, she knows how to say “please” using her sign language – but not much else. So when she gets frustrated the poor girl just starts clapping her hands together over and over saying “please, please, please, please…” and mommy and daddy flail around trying to figure out exactly what she wants. I suppose clapping her hands and crying a bit might be preferable to her shouting at us – remind me to opine on that when the time comes…
In any event, hard to believe Maile Girl is already 11 months old – we can’t wait to see what comes next!

I can’t believe our week in Hawaii is already over – so sad! I had so much fun – especially getting to spend time with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal. Even though I can’t say “thank you” yet – daddy said that taking these adorable pictures with them would more than suffice!
(Dad note: kudos to mommy for taking some great pictures! We’re already counting the days until we come back in December…)

Loyal readers of my blog might recall that back in December, daddy tried to take mommy away for the night to celebrate her birthday and I crashed the party. Well, I caught wind that he was up to his old tricks again, made it very clear that I wouldn’t behave if left alone with Grandma and Grandpa … and once again, got the invite to join mommy and daddy at the St. Regis Princeville!
This time the weather was much nicer, so we got some quality time in at the pool.
I really was loving the water – I could have played it in all day (perhaps because it was about 90 degrees). I even showed mommy that I was indeed learning from swim class, by remembering how to do “Humpty Dumpty”…
For dinner we headed over to the Hanalei Dolphin – I had my normal food, but mommy and daddy said their fish was excellent. The best part of the restaurant was that I met a really cute waiter. Mommy said that not only was he the cutest waiter at the restaurant, but also the nicest – I’m still not sure that made daddy any happier with my flirting. (Dad note: probably hard to convey this story via the blog, but Maile had this waiter wrapped around her little finger. He smiled at her every time he passed our table and when he came over to say hi, she got all smiley and giggly. Yikes.)
All in all it was another wonderful visit to the north side of Kauai and the St. Regis!
(Dad note: and very relaxing too, minus Maile’s 6 AM wake up call…)

This might be more of an inside joke for the Hawaiian locals, but what is up with Hawaiian grass? Back home grass is nice and smooth – here the grass is like little pieces of glass. Its so hard and prickly. I can’t stand it! Whenever Daddy goes to put me on the grass, I pull my legs up as far as I can to avoid touching it – its like he is torturing me!
