Ever since I first went there, I’ve been excited to take Maile to the California Academy of Sciences. The Academy has an aquarium, planetarium and natural history museum all under one roof. (Oh, and Christine wants me to mention that they have penguins too!)
On Sunday we were originally going to head to Half Moon Bay for the Pumpkin Festival, but bad weather had us calling an audible and we decided to see if Maile was old enough for the California Academy of Sciences. The answer was a resounding “yes”! We only really took in about 1/3 of the academy, spending most of our time in the aquarium. The aquarium is great – they let you get right up to the glass and they have rooms where it feels like you are in a fish bowl with the fishes zooming all over the place. Hard to get good pictures due to the lighting, but we did our best…
Maile Girl taking it all in...
Mommy, do these bars mean I can't go play with the fishies?
Not sure who is more fascinated here, Maile or me...
Daddy, there are so many fishies in here I can't even point to them all, but I'm going to do my best...
Maile wasn't even scared of the snake!
Maile really seemed to enjoy herself. She’s at this age now where she is a total sponge taking in everything – and the aquarium certainly had a lot to take in. We bought an annual pass on the way out and we’ll definitely be back sometime soon to check out the rest of the Academy (we didn’t even go to the indoor rainforest which many people say is the best part).
Daddy told me the other day what college cost. He broke it down in terms of blueberries (that’s the only thing I really find particularly valuable). I couldn’t believe it! I decided that I need to start saving much more seriously so I roped Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal, grabbed all their loose change and put it in my piggy bank. I hope daddy is happy with me…

(Dad note: quite happy. As the video shows, Maile takes saving very seriously!)

Last week Maile decided she no longer liked to sleep in her crib. And by “decided” I mean that she would scream every time we tried to put her down in it. She actually ended up sleeping on the guest bed for a few nights. It didn’t seem right (or particularly safe) for our 15 month old daughter to sleep in a full size bed.
So we decided to experiment and with Grandpa Cal’s help we switched Maile’s crib to the convertible bed.
As the video shows, Maile liked the convertible version MUCH better than the crib. Unfortunately, I don’t think the switch really enhanced our chances of getting her to go to sleep in it…

Needless to say, Maile’s crib is back in full effect… just being used slightly differently. Maile is back on the full size bed with the crib up against it as a barrier. Hopefully, we’ll get her back inside of it this weekend!

Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal brought Maile a backpack from Hawaii. She loves it. We loaded it up with all her favorite things (milk, mum-mums, a book and keys) and sent her on her way…
Maile and her backpack are cute from the front...
... and the back!
Off to school - I'll be home later...
Can someone open this for me? Pretty please!
On Saturday we headed down to the Farm for the Stanford/USC game and our first tailgate of the 2010 season.
Don't I look cute in my Stanford gear?
Daddy asked me to bring him a beer, but I can't quite get it open. Hmm...
Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal came along too!
Tailgates are exhausting!
After Maile Girl passed out (I believe from exhaustion, but she and Wills were spending a lot of time over by the beer bucket – is she already sneaking them by me?!?) – Grandpa Cal and I attended the actual game. Fantastic game – came down to the final second when this happened:

On Thursday morning, the doorbell rang at about 6:30 in the morning. Who rings a doorbell at 6:30 in the morning? Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal, that’s who! Straight in from Hawaii just to see little ol’ me.
Grandpa Cal jumped right in and fed me breakfast. He didn't eat anything, but I think he would say it was one of his favorite meals ever!
After breakfast, I took Grandma Gail out on the stoop and caught her up on everything new in my life.
We had quite the weekend – I’ll catch you up over the next few days…
Yesterday (the 6th) was our third anniversary. Hard to believe its been three years. As I was telling Chris last night, in a lot of ways, it feels a lot longer (all the right ones of course).
We received a very nice card from Aunty Carolyn and the family that said “Boy, you have accomplished a lot in 3 years!”
This is by far the best thing we've accomplished! (Picture was taken last year on our anniversary.)
And here's our girl today. They say "leather" is what you are supposed to give on the third anniversary, but I figured Maile in an Amazon box would work just fine...
With the start of the NBA preseason and knowing that we’re going to see Wills this weekend (who is turning into quite the baller) – we decided to have a little basketball practice session with Maile Girl. Playing with the net is still her favorite part, but she’s starting to develop quite the inside game. Next time we’ll work on rebounding…

Short post tonight because Mommy and Daddy have been really busy at work. The other morning Mommy even had to take a call at 6:30 AM! I had Daddy setup my computer and I helped Mommy take notes. We make a good team – I think she should hire me as her assistant and take me to work with her.
Running some numbers for Mommy...
This video starts in a little late, so let me set the scene. We’ve started to let Maile eat some of her meals on a little fold up table. So the other night, Maile is eating dinner with Mommy. Let’s pick up with what Maile does after she decides she doesn’t want her peas…
[vimeo clip_id=”15554768″ width=”450″ /]
We have no idea where she picked up this trick. All we can think of is that she’s seen us dump stuff we don’t want in the trash. We have been teaching her how to pick up her toys as well when she is done playing. So maybe she just put two and two together – food she’s done eating? Goes in the trash…
