Sunday morning we were hanging around the apartment. Mommy was reading the newspaper. Daddy was checking some email. Maile was milling about playing with her toys. She was going back and forth between rooms and then all of a sudden it got REALLY quiet. Christine and I immediately knew something was up. Sure enough, we walked into the kitchen and there was Maile Girl showing us how she can now twist open our spices… joy.
When it gets quiet, get ready for trouble...
It wasn't me! It was Dolly B!
My nanny, Megan, has a really cool boyfriend named Dodo. (Dad note: his name is actually Dolan, but the “lan” part was troublesome, so we just doubled up the “do”…) I’ve met him a few times and he’s just so much more mature compared to the other boys I’ve met so far in my 18 months of life. So I decided I’m going to steal him. Megan wants to share and I told her that would be okay, but secretly (between just us), I have a plan to take him all for myself. As the video below details, it involves dancing and blowing kisses. Do you think it will work?

Maile Girl here and I’m a girl on a mission. Mommy and Daddy have been taking me to the park for a long time now. I watch all the big girls and boys playing on the swings and the see saw and, especially, the slide. I watched how they climbed up the steps and walked over the platform and sat down and then pushed off and went WOOSH down the slide. At first I thought it was a little scary, but more and more I’ve been thinking that it looks like a lot of fun. So last weekend I decided that I, Maile Girl, was going to go down the big girl slide … ALL by myself! I told Mommy to wait down below (Dad note: where she got a really cool angle on the shot) and headed up to the slide…
I loved it! I can’t wait to go back. Maybe this weekend?

Megan sent us this video today when we are at work and it cracked us up – so we thought we’d share. Apparently, we need to show Maile some new hiding spots around the apartment this weekend…

I think it's fair to say that Maile is going through a picky phase when it comes to eating...
A quick google search revealed 40,400 results – so I guess we’re in good company…
Fancy meeting you in here!
On Saturday, we went on YAPST (“yet another pre school tour”) – this time Hannah and Jake joined us. It was fun watching them interact with each other, especially Maile and Hannah. One our friends that has twins told us that Maile and Hannah remind her of how her boys act. It’s not surprising, they pretty much spend every day together during the week. Things remained peaceful at the pre school (luckily), but Megan has certainly shared that they get into it with each other sometimes. Just like real sisters…

Life. Is. Good.
I think this video accurately captures Maile’s language skills 18 months in. She knows and uses a few more words, but a good chunk of the common ones are featured here. Interesting that most of the words revolve around food.
Plus, as a bonus it ends with Maile’s patented “I want to go dance” shimmy…
Have a great weekend!

Maile is protesting something. We’re not sure exactly what, but she’s doing a great job of showing solidarity for her cause. Whatever that may be.
All of a sudden over the past couple of weeks she’s become extremely picky with her eating. She used to be a garbage disposal. No longer.
On the plus side, we don’t need to worry about her burning her mouth by eating food that is too hot – she has mastered the art of making sure she blows on her food before putting it her mouth.
(Dad note: All the food in the video below is cold. Ice cold.)

Mark it down – 18 months old – first time I got to tell Maile that “money doesn’t grow on trees”…
