We headed over to Poipu to play at the beach today. Mommy and Maile made some great sand castles.
Well, Mommy made the sand castles. Maile destroyed them.
See Maile, after you fill the bucket with sand, you turn it over carefully...
And voila! A perfect sand castle!
Mommy, you know what's better than building a sand castle?
Knocking it down!
Muwhahaha!

As of a couple months ago, this post was going to be our first from our Japanese adventure. We had been planning to go visit Katie and Emily in Japan as well as tour Osaka and Kyoto. Due to the earthquake and the tragic aftermath, we decided to postpone our trip. (We should report that Katie, Emily and the rest of the family are fine.)
Not bad to have Hawaii as the fall back plan though! We arrived this afternoon and immediately took to some fun outdoor action…
Should I use my purple club or my pink one for this hole?
Hmm... this doesn't feel quite right, can I get a little help over here?
Maile, fair warning, your daddy is awful at golf. We'll need to get Papa Cal in here to give you a true lesson...
After golf, we decided we wanted to ride the bike – unfortunately, Maile still hasn’t figured out the whole “move the pedals to make you go” aspect of bike riding… (although at least this time, she was interested in sitting on the bike!)
Bike riding powered by Papa Cal
Daddy-powered bike riding...
And, mommy-powered bike riding! Basically, everything except Maile powered bike riding...

Mommy, Maile, Megan, Hannah, Andrea and Jake - Mother's Day 2011
Hannah, Jake and I prepared a Mother’s Day get together for the mommies. We all headed over to Jake’s house and had a fun afternoon hanging out and eating. Hannah, Jake and I actually spent some time with Jake’s new kitchen trying to put together the meal. Results were a bit mixed.
Dude, control yourself.
Hey mommies, we know its your special day, but can we get a little help over here?
What was that? I don't know. So much drama with the boys, right?

The James Beard Foundation announced their best restaurant/chef awards today. Mommy and Maile were inspired so they hit the kitchen together to cook Maile’s dinner. Maile was the chef and Mommy was the sous chef – on the menu – eggs, mommy-style!

Maile hasn't quite grasped that going for a bike ride actually involves riding on a bike...
It was a beautiful weekend here in SF so Maile and I headed out for a bike ride on Saturday afternoon. I think its safe to say, we need to work with Maile on the concept of bike “riding” a bit… perhaps Papa Mike can send some pointers!
