Maile Girl here. For the past 2.5 years and almost 800 blog posts, I’ve been the “star”. I think I’m ready for something more and have decided to take my turn behind the camera…
I apologize that I’m a little shaky holding the camera – I will work on that – but I hope you agree that I really brought out a great performance from Mommy with my directions!
(Dad note: no trickery here, she picked up the iPhone, opened the camera app, turned it on, recorded, and then, most interesting to me, figured out how to turn it off. Perhaps slightly less impressive because she’s seen Mommy and Daddy do it about a million times already!)

Maile may get most of her looks from her Mommy, but her ability to focus intently on the television definitely comes from Daddy…
Don't try to bother Maile or I when we are watching TV - we're focusing here!

It may not look like much, but this video actually represents a big step for Maile Girl. Maile hasn’t been the most … open … to touching new, strange things. But at the California Academy of Sciences this weekend, she was all excited to check out the Sea Stars* and she actually touched them!
Proof:
(*Dad note: My lovely wife informed me that they no longer call them Starfish – they are now Sea Stars. Why? Because they aren’t fish! You learn something new every day.)

We took Maile to the top of the observation tower at the De Young Museum today. It was a beaufitul day and Maile really got a kick out of the new perspective of San Francisco. We spent awhile looking for our house and we’re pretty sure we found it!
Mommy helped Maile get oriented...
Leaning in...
So many houses ... which one is ours?
Daddy, I found our house!
See - right over there!

Beautiful day. Check. Beautiful View. Check. Beautiful Little Girl. Check!
Daddy told me that he had a headache tonight (that’s a fancy word for “owie on your head”). I immediately knew what to do – I went and got my penguin ice pack and taught Daddy how to hold it on his head. He said it felt a little better, but it wasn’t until I gave him a kiss that he said he felt all better. I guess my kisses are like medicine. (Dad note: Bad medicine, of course.)

On Sunday we went to my classmate Teia’s 3rd birthday. It was A LOT of fun – I got to see all my school friends and there was this great park that we ran all around and explored. The best part was the climbing tower – Daddy and I have been working on my climbing so had lots of fun showing him how much I’ve learned. He looked a little worried as I got higher and higher, but he’s a good teacher, so I said, “Daddy, you have nothing to worry about. I got this!”
Concentrating like Daddy taught me - making sure I put every foot on a sturdy place...
Dad note: On second thought, maybe this whole teaching how to climb thing was a questionable call...
But how can you pass up this? Joy.

I'm hard at work on a project. Bet you can't guess what I'm making?!
Argh! Me name be Maile and I'm a pirate!
This be me parrot. I made her meself. Isn't she pretty?
Momme said t' make me meanest pirate face - what do you think? Would you give me all your gold?
T’ latest Kiwi Crate arrived on Friday and Momme and Maile set t’ work over t’ weekend. It was a really fun one this time – pirate-themed! Maile made a pirate hat and eye patch, her own parrot and it even came with a wooden treaaye chest that Maile decorated and filled with her precious stones. Then they drew a map that looked suspiciously like a Dora map t’ say where she hid t’ treaaye.
(Dad note: Thanks to the english-to-pirate translator for help with this post!)

WE
ALL
SCREAM
FOR ICE CREAM!
It took a little longer than expected, but Maile Girl is now a big fan of ice cream! (Dad note: These weren’t all taken yesterday, just over the past week or so.)
