Growing up with a little of both and the lessons learned along the way

Notice anything similar in these two pictures?
I took the first picture and Christine took the second picture. We both noticed the hand grasp that Maile was doing.
Not sure where it came from, but it seems to be her go to move when she is getting comfortable and relaxing. Now the question is – do either of the grandparents remember Christine or I doing something similar?

This video is pretty cute, but not exactly what we were aiming for. Christine makes most of the dinners in our household and I always thank her for dinner when we sit down. Maile does this now too – she thanks whoever made her dinner. Christine and I are quite pleased with her good manners.
Of course, we fail in trying to capture this (although the “mmm mmm good” part is pretty funny). The “poop” talk at the end is Maile’s new favorite word – she must have learned at school that “poop” was a funny word and she says it ALL THE TIME. Yay, school.

Maile Girl here. It’s definitely spring time in the city and I’m loving it! This weekend, my Daddy and I went on a long walk down by the water. We had ice cream (I had vanilla) and then we went looking for flowers for Mommy. I found a very pretty purple one. And guess what? When I got home, Mommy said it was her favorite (an iris)! Daddy said I should try to remember that fact. I’ll try, Daddy.

This video pretty much sums up how potty training is going these days…
In all seriousness, we’re definitely in the frustrating stage of the raining. Maile is fully capable of going on the potty and often does it, but not all the time. Still lots of accidents and she doesn’t seem to like it very much. The “treats” we used for awhile have worn off for the most part. She seems to have regressed a bit at school too.
Mommy (especially) and Daddy are in the process of retrenching. New goal is to have this buttoned up by her birthday. Stay tuned!

Maile went to a birthday party this weekend and they had someone there painting the kids’ faces. Mommy decided that it might be a better idea to do the paint on Maile’s arm. Why? She recalled Grandma Jill mentioning that Daddy’s face never reacted very well to face paint and he’d break out in hives.
Dad note: This is true. And I’m sorry, Maile Girl.

Today was a big day for my company – we rebranded from Read It Later to Pocket and announced a whole new product line. It’s something we’ve been working really hard at for the past 6 months and the launch went great!
Best part was that Daddy got to come home from work a bit early for a change (I’ve been working pretty late hours the past week especially and missing Maile Girl before bed time). Maile and I got a chance to show off our new Pocket t-shirts!
(Dad note #1: If the picture of me above is a little disconcerting, you must have missed this post from yesterday 😉
(Dad note #2: If you are interested in reading more about Pocket, We received some great press coverage today. I haven’t had a chance to digest it all, but you can read some here and here.)

I had this weird thing happen to me this weekend where the right side of my face became paralyzed. Turns out it is something called Bell’s Palsy. Good news is that while incredibly uncomfortable, it will go away.
My right eye doesn’t close very well so I’ve been wearing an eye patch. Yes, Daddy is a pirate.
I had to work late today, but Maile decided that I needed a “treasure hat” to go with my patch. And she also decided she wanted to be a pirate too. Can’t tell you how much love this picture made me feel!
