Growing up with a little of both and the lessons learned along the way

Maile Girl found this weird phone-like device with a cord(!) in Auntie Elyssa’s room and has been having a blast calling all her “friends” on it…

Did you know that books are true? I always thought that the stories that Mommy and Daddy read me at night are made up – but I guess that isn’t true. All week, Grandma Jill has been reading me this story about these ducklings that live in Boston … and then this weekend WE WENT AND MET THEM! How cool is that? This has opened up a whole new world to me … I can’t wait to meet the Cat in the Hat!
(Dad note: More info here – but definitely a fun adventure in Boston for the little ones. All the ladies had a blast and it was fun tying the book to real life.)

Maile Girl here. It’s been a few days since Daddy or I checked in – we apologize! On Thursday, Mommy and Daddy woke me up and instead of going to school, we rode in an airplane all the way to Boston to see Grandma and Papa … and Auntie Elyssa! I’ve been having so much fun with them! I’ll post about some of my adventures over the next couple of days…
For now proof positive that I’m a happy girl!

For the past couple of weeks, one of the first things Maile does in the AM is sit down and start building cars and rocket ships with her legos. Her creations are getting more and more interesting (Daddy couldn’t be prouder!)

A few weeks back Maile discovered that you can put ice cream in “cones” vs. boring old bowls and she hasn’t looked back. Unfortunately, she likes to take her time with her ice cream and the cone doesn’t really lend itself to the casual ice cream eater. Ice cream outings have definitely become a bit … messy.
(NOTE: Having issues with Vimeo tonight – hopefully, the video will appear above, if not, try the link below.)

On Saturday, we headed over to Golden Gate Park for Harold’s 5th birthday. Maile had an awesome time running all over and Mommy took a great series of photos…

A good friend passed away four years ago tomorrow (Monday the 21st). He loved the Doors and a few days before he passed I was with him for an epic karaoke performance of “Roadhouse Blues” – the song will always be one of the ways I remember him. I decided to teach Maile the song tonight – she picked it up right away (I think because she really liked the “duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-ANAH” part … and I was bouncing her on my knee).
In any event, the whole thing cracked me up and definitely good to have some laughs on a day like today. I also hope that by posting here, Maile asks me for the back story one day – he’s a friend I look forward to telling her about.

Maile is getting pretty good with the Magna Tiles…
(Dad note: This was all Maile – 100%. If you couldn’t hear the audio (sorry that it cut out a bit) – she was building a home for her legos. She built up the castle and then she would open different parts of it to put in her legos. And once in there, apparently her legos “eat”, “sleep” “go to the potty”, etc. Clearly.)
