Listen Close…

by Papa K on January 17, 2013

You’ll have to listen close, but if you can hear it, this might be the sweetest sound in the world. Baby Lauren does this cute little whimper when she sleeps on you and it melts my heart every time she does it.

Quick Good Night from Lauren

by Papa K on January 16, 2013

We’re tired and going to sleep (plus Vimeo wasn’t working for some reason). So just a quick good night from Baby Lauren…

Good night!

On Sunday, Grandma Jill and Papa Mike arrived from Boston to meet their new granddaughter (and, of course, spend lots of time with Maile Girl). I think it is fair to say that it was mutual love at first sight…

Up Close with Lauren

by Papa K on January 14, 2013

This video makes me laugh – I get the feeling that Lauren is just testing out how her face works … or pooping her diaper. One or the other 😉

Big Girl, Little Gear

by Papa K on January 10, 2013

It used to be that Maile had the run of the place – pretty much everything at the apartment was for her. Now there is all this stuff for Lauren and it can get confusing sometimes…

We call them the Swaddled Sisters:

(Dad note: It’s really weird – all of a sudden it feels like Maile got MUCH older and has basically doubled in weight. I don’t expect her to weigh the same as Lauren, of course, but whenever we pick her up now she feels so heavy. Very strange!)

When Grandma Gail and Papa Cal were originally planning to leave on Sunday, we thought we’d be saying good-bye like this:

Grandma Gail, Papa Cal and Maile (3.5)

Instead, we said good-bye on Wednesday like this:

Grandma Gail, Papa Cal, Maile (3.5) and Lauren (4 days)

We can’t thank Grandma and Papa enough for changing around their flights and helping us settle in these few days. We will certainly never forget our Christmas and New Year’s vacation to Disneyland and the very special gift we received at the start of 2013!

Not a fan of diapers

by Papa K on January 8, 2013

Maile is quickly learning that babies do 3 main things: eat, poop and sleep. She’s a big fan of the eating process. She’s not as big a fan of the pooping part.

Mommy and Daddy are pretty tired, so I’m trying to help out wherever I can. Mommy is the main person that feeds Lauren, but she’s been so hungry that the doctor said to give her an extra little bottle of something called formula. It smells funny, BUT it comes in little bottles that I can handle no problem. So I get to help give Lauren the formula!

First, you talk to Lauren and tell her what you are doing and you rub the top of the bottle on her lips so she gets used to it.

Then soon enough she latches right on and start sucking...

Mommy taught me to lift the bottle up so no air gets in - the air makes Lauren uncomfortable.

And then you just give a big smile because you are feeding your baby sister!

(Dad note: This is the 1,000th post I’ve made on this blog. Somewhat fitting that in many respects we are right back where we started 3.5 years ago! As the above shows, this time through we have an extra set of hands 🙂 Looking forward to sharing many more adventures in the years to come. Thank you for following along – it’s been a lot of fun sharing the joy that Maile (and now Lauren) bring to our lives!)

Meeting My New Sister

by Maile Girl on January 6, 2013

Maile Girl here. I know Daddy told you about my new sister, Lauren, yesterday – but I wanted to chime in with some of my own thoughts…

On Thursday, Mommy and Daddy told me that they were going to go back to San Francisco to have the doctors check out Lauren. They didn’t tell me she was definitely coming, but I had a feeling. I didn’t mind too much, I got to play with Grandma and Papa. On Friday, we took an airplane back to San Francisco and Daddy met us at the airport. He asked me if I wanted to meet my new sister. I said, “YES!” (of course) – sometimes Daddy asks me silly questions.

We drove over to the hospital and sure enough when I walked into the room there was Mommy and a little baby. My new sister! I didn’t even know her name yet, but as soon as I saw her, I knew I loved her. She was so tiny. It’s a good thing she has a big sister like me to look out for her. Mommy let me hold her right away. She was a little heavy, but I did okay. I’ve held her a bunch of times since – I like holding her. She is pretty much the most cuddly doll ever. But she’s real. Sometimes she yells – at first it scared me a little, but now I’m kind of used to it.

(Dad note: this video was taken a couple minutes after Maile first met Lauren and is the first time she heard her new sister’s name!)

I can't take my eyes off of her!

The doctor came in to do an exam while I was there. I watched her like a hawk - I'm very protective of my little sister.

Love.

(Dad note: We came home from the hospital today. Everyone is doing great. As evidenced above, Maile absolutely adores her little sister. She’s adjusting pretty well to having a fourth member of the family around. A few tears here or there and definitely some vying for Mommy’s attention, but all in all, she’s been great. Maile Girl is going to be a great big sister!)
