It took Maile a mere 24 hours of being home before we had to take her to the doctor to help get her “unstuck” in the bowel movement area. Lauren lasted six weeks, but last night she too had her first ER visit. (So I guess that’s progress, right?)
She had been struggling with a cough since the weekend that she picked up from her sister (who was sick all last week). We did our best keeping them apart, but our apartment is only so big! On Sunday she started to show some signs of a mild fever. The doctor told us not to worry too much unless the fever went above 100.4. On Monday night it hit 100.4, but we decided to wait to see if it was going to go higher. About 20 minutes later while lying on Daddy, Lauren did a big girl puke all over Daddy. It was a lot and the combination of the fever plus the throw up sent us on our way to the emergency room.
They took good care of us at the emergency room and after a couple hours, a test they ran revealed that Lauren had RSV. It’s a very common virus and it should go away within the week – it’s a little more worrisome in a baby as little as Lauren, but we caught it early and are paying good attention to her. She’s eating fine and while certainly uncomfortable due to her cough, she’s still pretty active and her normal self.
(Dad note: Luckily, Grandma Jill was still in town which made the trip to the hospital at 11 PM much easier. She came over from her hotel to watch Maile Girl and took one for the team by sleeping on the couch for the night. Thanks Grandma!)
