I mentioned in the post the other night that a new favorite past time for Christine and I is to jump back a year or two and watch a video from the past.
Tonight I had to work late at work and Christine sent me a video that made me laugh out loud. From two years ago. Thought I’d share…

I have hands! Two of them, in fact.
But, boy, are they kind of hard to control. I’m all, “Hands! Pick up that mum mum!” and they’re like, “No way, this bib is more interesting.”
Or I FINALLY get a piece of mum mum in there between my fingers and we start heading to my mouth and guess what happens? Just as I open my mouth the hands drop the mum mum! I mean, honestly, work with me people!

Hard to believe that Maile Girl is already starting her third and final year of preschool. It wasn’t so long ago that we brought Maile to Presidio Knolls for her very first day of school – but man, it’s incredible how much she has grown these past two years. Lately, Christine and I have been hopping on Vimeo and just searching back a year or so – watching those videos compared to now blows our minds.
Maile at 4 headed to her first day of school...
Me too? Not yet, Lauren, not yet...
Maile and Lauren (8 months)
Mommy and her not-so-little-any-more girl...
Maile and Daddy
When Maile went down to San Diego last week with her Grandma Gail and Papa Cal she brought along her camera. This weekend we engaged in the age old tradition of reviewing one’s photos after the trip. Luckily, Maile only took 5 photos – so things went pretty quick.
You can check out Maile’s photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mailegirl. (Dad note: I mentioned this awhile back, but I set up Maile’s camera so whatever photos she takes automatically gets posted to that Flickr page. She’s actually started taking a fair number of pictures and the site is pretty fascinating view of what a 4 year old finds interesting…)
But even better than the photos, are the stories Maile came back with about everything she saw…

More and more we rely on the iPhone camera to capture shots of the girls, but the DSLR we have still takes MUCH better pictures. Christine busted it out last week and captured some fun pictures of Lauren. I couldn’t decide on just one, so you get the full set!
Grandma Gail and Papa Cal took Maile down to San Diego yesterday for a couple days of adventure. Today they went to Seaworld and apparently, Maile got a new toy. Papa Cal sent us this video tonight – we only got a minute of it (since the iPhone limits how long videos you email can be), but it’s so good, I wanted to post right away – I imagine the full thing is priceless.
Here are the lyrics as I heard them:
Today is your first day with me
I love you so much, you’re my favorite toy
I’ll never forget of you
You’re my favorite toy
You’ll never get lost
Because I’ll keep you in my bed
[unintelligible]
Kisses and hugs for you
I love you and you love me
And I’m going to take care of you
You’re the one for me forever
So much love for my Maile Girl 🙂

Lauren is getting closer and closer every day to crawling. And Maile is her biggest cheerleader 🙂
The sad thing is, she has better push up form than her Daddy...
Her move these days is to go into a full plank – whole body off the ground. The part she hasn’t figured out yet is how to make things move forward. Only a matter of time…

Ultimately, I’m guessing communication will go smoother if Maile gets Lauren up to her “level” of talking vs. playing down to Lauren’s. But perhaps Maile has a plan here to establish some common ground first. We shall see…

Mommy and Daddy went away this weekend and left Lauren and I home. Don’t worry Grandma Gail and Papa Cal came to stay with us! On Friday, I told Papa that we needed to send Mommy and Daddy pictures throughout the weekend so that they knew we were doing okay. And that’s exactly what he did!
On Friday night we went to Off the Grid and it was Onigri time for me!
Lauren hasn't discovered the joys of onigri yet, she is content with just her strap.
At the park, I showed Papa how to feed Lauren. (Dad note: Mommy and I really liked how Maile opened her mouth to show Lauren how it's done.)
This is Lauren showing off a bit by holding her own bottle - see Mommy and Daddy we don't need you around! Just kidding...
(Dad note: Thank you to Grandma Gail and Papa Cal for taking such good care of our girls while we were away!)
This is a flashback video from when we were in Boston last week. Maile and I walked down to Stanley School (a short walk from Grandma and Papa’s and where I went to elementary school) and had a lot of fun playing on the playground. I showed Maile how to play hopscotch and then she took matters in to her own hands and came up with rules to share with me about how they play the game “in China.” Yes, I get taught new rules from China for games I thought I knew how to play all the time 🙂
