Maile Girl here. As my Daddy reported, last week at swim class I got a ribbon. I was pretty psyched, but also determined to show everyone it was no fluke. I had Mommy bring along the camera to document things and wanted to show all of you how great I’m doing with swimming. I’m not even afraid of putting my face in the water anymore (well, at least as long as I have goggles on). No, really – check out the proof below!
Hi, I'm Maile Fish and I'm learning how to swim!
First you take a deep breath...
... then you put your head ALL THE WAY IN THE WATER!
... and then you come back up for air so you can breath...
Piece of cake, right?
Yeah, I'm getting good at this 🙂

Thought we start the week off with our little Lauren Fairy…
Give me a second, let me just get this straightened out...
Alright there we go - I am Lauren Fairy!
Awesome, right?
You know what I just figured out?
With the wings on your back, it makes it MUCH harder to eat them. Hmm....

Maile and Lauren have been playing together more and more. Now that Lauren can sit up and crawl a bit, Maile drags her all over the house and places her in interesting positions along with her toys. Lauren is basically her favorite toy.
Tonight, she decided that she wanted to make Lauren salad. When I found them, Lauren was in the salad bowl and Maile was stirring her. I didn’t get a picture of that, but we snagged a few while Lauren was still in the bowl…
Yay! Maile told me I'm a salad!
Excuse me?
Salad is something you eat? Not cool, Maile, not cool.

If you asked Maile, Lauren is saying “Maile” in this video, but I think she is pretty clearly saying “Da-da”! That makes me two for two on first words, but that is only because of my amazing wife who repeats it to her little girls over and over.

Hmm... I used to have two legs, but I appear to have lost one during my nap...
Mommy, when you are done laughing at your little mermaid, could you help me out?

Maile isn’t new to soccer – she started a couple years ago with Soccer Tots and plays at school as well. However, she was never a part of a soccer team until this year when she became eligible to join the Mixed Under 5s PKS Pandas (her school team)!
And Daddy has a new role too – Coach Matt (or Coach Daddy as we agreed Maile could call me). Yes, a life long goal of becoming a kids’ soccer coach has been realized. (In all seriousness, I’ve been very much looking forward to doing this with Maile … and Lauren too when she gets a bit older.)
Coach Daddy and Maile Girl ready to rock!
Our first practice and game went okay – but unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate so it was pretty wet out there. The kids were champs for most of it – but definitely got a little tired and cold. And we need to work on learning which direction the goal is.
Here are a couple videos of what under 5 “soccer” looks like:
This one cracked me up – our team is the green team. Need to work on “engaging” the other team a bit 😉

As you may remember, about two months ago we started swim classes with Maile at a new program called La Petite Baleen. We go Saturday afternoons and I’ve been really impressed with the program – after a little bit of a slow start, Maile is really, well, learning how to swim!
This weekend we hit a huge milestone, Maile earned her first ribbon! (La Petite Baleen has a set of ribbons and other achievements that the kids earn as they go – as you might imagine it works well and Maile has gotten in to going for the ribbons and stickers.)
To earn her first, Rainbow Ribbon, Maile made it through a whole class without crying, she listened to directions and successfully put her face all the way into the water while she was swimming.
Maile has always loved the concept of swimming and being in the water, but she was really clingy – I’ve loved watching as she’s progressed these past couple of months and have a feeling that by the time we get to Hawaii in December she’ll be jumping into the water with abandon!
So proud of Maile Girl for earning her Rainbow Ribbon!

After her bath the other night, I taught Maile how to cross her eyes. (Yes, that’s what I’m here for, the important things.) She hasn’t quite figured it out yet, but she is really, really enjoying trying.
Have a great weekend!

If she doesn’t end up being a doctor, perhaps Maile has a career in PR ahead of her…
Maile's announcement that Lauren is now crawling...
My big sister Maile is the best. I love her so much. I learn so much just by watching her – and trust me, I watch her. All. The. Time.
One thing I am quickly learning – my sister is an absolute riot. And big on the physical comedy too. Just absolutely cracks me up.
