Growing up with a little of both and the lessons learned along the way

Christine and I are very, very excited for the “chores” era to begin. In fairness though, the girls kicked this one off on their own. Daddy typically empties the dishwasher in the morning – but Mommy and the girls are up first and they decided to dig in and help out! Love how they work together as a team too – cracked me up when Christine shared this video with me.

Last week Grandma and Papa Boston took Maile and Lauren over the bridge for a little exploring time at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Judging by the pictures they did exactly that and had a lot of fun doing it!

The text came in at 5:38 PM on Friday afternoon:
Guess who took 4 steps on her own?!?
And sure enough, when I arrived home a short while later, Lauren was ready to rock and show off her new fancy footwork for her daddy…
I went to the archive and Maile took her first steps on August 25, 2010. Incredibly they both started walking at exactly the same time (Maile was 46 days after her 1st birthday, Lauren was 48 days). Pretty crazy!

Last week was “ski week” so no school for Maile Girl. Or as I like to put it – “Ski week? I don’t get that at work, man, I hope one of the grandparents can come visit and help out with the girls”-week. This time Grandma and Papa Boston delivered coming out on Monday and spending the week with Maile and Lauren. And they had a blast all over San Francisco…
Thank you, Grandma and Papa for the good times and watching after our girls all week!

Found out today that the girls both have conjunctivitis. Yay. While looking through the photos and videos from the week to find something to post tonight, I discovered this one and inadvertently think I found our Patient Zero 😉

Daddy, I’m not sure what kind of tricks you are trying to play on me. I am absolutely positive that a few seconds ago Mommy was right here and now all I see is my reflection in these big metal walls.
What gives?
No, seriously, bring her back.

In the build up to the Olympics we started watching some ice skating with Maile and she absolutely loved it. From there she started pretending that our hard wood floor was ice and she’d skate around on her socks after dinner. Today, Mommy decided to introduce her to the real thing and they headed down to the Yerba Buena Skating Rink to try things out.
(Truth be told this was our second time trying to skate – two Christmases ago we had an aborted attempt at the rink they put up in Union Square. We lasted about 10 seconds on the ice that time. This time went WAY better…)
Mommy managed to capture some great short snippets of Maile’s first time out skating – I combined them into a video that captures it nicely I think…

I’m a lucky man to have these two cuties as my valentines…
(Thank you to Grandma Gail for the matching Valentine’s Day outfits – and to Mommy, my O.G. Valentine, for the great shot!)
Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Last week we celebrated Chinese New Year with Maile’s whole school. We had a great time with all the other families. Certainly the highlight was seeing all the kids perform a song and dance on stage. This may shock you, but Maile feels at home up there 🙂
Here’s the full video of Maile and her classmates’ performance:
