This one is for Papa Mike – we thought he would enjoy waking up to this one on his birthday. Papa always had music playing in the house growing up and I have fond memories of dancing around with him and Auntie Elyssa and Grandma after dinner. We’ve definitely continued that tradition – one of our favorite things to do in the evening after work 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPA!

… gets all over your face and hands and, especially, cheeks!
It was messy, but we LOVED it!
Daddy came home for dinner just like normal.
Daddy gave me a bath just like normal.
Daddy left the house before bedtime … NOT NORMAL!
This. Is. Not. Part. Of. My. Routine.
I thought maybe he might just be taking out the trash. I thought maybe he’d come back soon before I went to bed. I kept checking the door. Nope. Just left. A kiss, some words I didn’t understand and then gone.
Not cool, Daddy, not cool.
(Dad note: I had a meeting – in fairness, I usually don’t come home first if I have a meeting at night. Threw poor Lauren off her game a bit. I’ll make it up to her with kisses in the morning.)

It’s been awhile since we updated on Maile’s swimming progress. She’s been going once a weekend for lessons and its really starting to pay off – she ditched the floaties a couple weeks ago and hasn’t looked back. I think we can officially declare that Maile “knows how to swim” now!
We’ve come a LONG way from this…

Millie (our nanny) sent this great picture of Lauren and Elena playing with their new favorite toy today. They absolutely love this box we got at Costco. It is indeed their not a box.
Oh the joys of playing with a box!
I know we just posted some pictures of Maile and her sister from another mother, Hannah, last week – but the girls got together again last weekend and this video was just too cute not to share.

Most of the time, it’s Maile that gets to tease me. She’s taller so she can hold things over my head. She’s stronger, so she rips things out of my hands. There are a hundred toys lying around, but for whatever reason, she always to play with the one that I managed to get my hands on.
But every once in awhile, I get my revenge. She thought she was going to teach me how to feed her – I had other ideas…

(See previous Girls Days photos, 2012 and 2010 here.)
Today was Girls Day in Japan and we celebrated a bit here in San Francisco too. Maile and Lauren both wore their favorite kimonos and Maile even got to wear hers to school and tell all her friends about why she was wearing it.
I did my best to snag some pictures, but Lauren was NOT interested.
Maile did her best with the little squirm bug...
Maile Girl on her 5th Girls Day
Loved showing off her kimono!
She insists these fit.
