For the past few years, we’ve had a tradition of going on a bike ride for father’s day. This year, Lauren joined for the first time. We rented a trailer and the girls both sat in that while I pulled it and Christine pedaled along side, stopping occasionally to document the adventure.
I felt like Rocky in the Rocky IV training scene where he is pulling Paulie in the sled – except I was biking over the Golden Gate Bridge on a beautiful sunny day instead of in the Russian winter.
My girls are decidedly cuter than Paulie though…

Mommy and Lauren
I taught Lauren why we need to wear a helmet to keep our heads safe...
... and then she shared with everyone else 🙂
For the ride itself we rode up over the Golden Gate Bridge and back – perfect weather and it was a first going over the bridge for both Lauren and Mommy!
Family picture halfway through the ride
This was actually Mommy's first time riding over the Golden Gate Bridge too!
With almost 5 years of material under our belts, we can definitely handle a little #TBT (throw back Thursday) action here on hapa-haole.net.
Christine actually inspired me when she sent me a link to this video tonight. This feels SO long ago!

As Lauren gets older she is developing her own routines that she likes to do over and over. For example, after breakfast, we’ll say it is time to put on our socks and shoes and she’ll go over and get her shoes, bring them back, sit down and lift up her foot, one at a time, so we can help her put on her socks and shoes.
Or at night, after dinner, we say its “bath time” and she’ll run over to the bath tub and start trying to pull off her clothes. She *loves* bath time.
Lauren on her stool keeping me company while I get ready in the morning
Her latest is to join me in the bathroom while I shower and get ready in the morning. When she sees me start to head for the shower, she runs into the bathroom, pulls over her stool and sits down and basically just watches me take a shower. She mimics me when I put shampoo in my hair too. It’s great.
Lauren has a bit of an aggressive approach to her art currently…

Lauren’s hair is long enough now for itty bitty pigtails … giving rise to Coolio Lauren!

On Saturday, Maile had her second dance recital with the Tutu School. If you need a refresher on where we left off, here’s a link to last year’s.
This year’s theme was the garden and Maile’s group was the finale – dressed in red as roses.
Our ballerina, striking a pose!
I managed to get a pretty good video this year – Maile starts off on the far left of the screen…
I think it’s fair to say, stage fright is not a problem with Maile Girl – she loves performing and being on stage!

Lauren, Maile, Kate, Hannah, Willa and Sophie
We headed down to Hannah’s house for a play date with the girls both older siblings (Maile, Hannah and Sophie) and younger (Lauren, Kate and Willa). We made a good effort a group shot – but not quite there yet 😉
There are a lot of similarities between Maile and Lauren, but one area where we are really seeing a big difference with Lauren is her fearlessness – particularly related to climbing. This video captures it perfectly:
We were visiting friends and Lauren just started climbing up the slide and throwing her self down. Maile was much more cautious. Lauren is a monkey – and we love it!

Lauren Girl trying on Mommy's rain boots...
Lauren loves shoes. She loves putting her own shoes on. She loves putting Maile’s shoes on. She loves putting Mommy’s shoes on. She loves bring you your shoes so you’ll put them on (and hopefully bring her outside). The girl just loves shoes!
Thought this was a cute one to start the week with 🙂
