Growing up with a little of both and the lessons learned along the way

On Sunday we went over to PKS to have a final potluck and take a group photo with the group that participated in the Chinese New Year parade.
Wait, who is that in the middle? Yep, yours truly. I was asked to sub in last minute as the sheep herder as our head of school couldn’t make it.

You might remember that last fall, Maile and I went to the Food Bank for the first time to volunteer with some of her classmates. We went back again on Sunday and had a great time. This time we were tasked with sorting oranges and once again, it was a really well run volunteer event and perfect for young kids.

Kelly and Lauren were playing with magna tiles the other day and afterwards Lauren asked Kelly to take some pictures to share her creation with Christine and I. So, of course, I am now sharing with you 🙂

Leave two little girls alone with plastic pieces that can be put together to make a flute and magic happens…
We’ll be traveling circuses as a novelty musical act soon enough!

This weekend was the annual Cherry Blossom Festival down in Japantown. On Sunday morning the girls got dressed up in their kimonos. Well, Maile was very excited to don hers, Lauren less excited about the kimono – she just wanted to rock as much Hello Kitty gear as possible, so she wore a Hello Kitty t-shirt and her Hello Kitty-style kimono as more of an open jacket.
We had a great time checking things out, catching up with one of Mommy’s friends from work, eating some Japanese street food, playing games and, yes, lots and lots of Hello Kitty.

Last week Maile had an art show for her after school Chinese character art class. It was a pretty cool class – they used the characters to create pictures based on their meaning.
Needless to say Maile had a blast – this is squarely up her alley 🙂

Christine earned her holiday Mommy stripes this weekend. First, she cooked up a storm – matzah ball soup on Friday, briscuit and kugle on Saturday and delicious steaks and homemade french fries on Sunday. Oh, and this crazy delicious marshmallow graham cracker brownie and banana muffins to boot.
Whew, exhausted just thinking about it – no really look – I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
And to top it off – it wasn’t just delicious food, Mommy also found time to (a) go for a run for her marathon training and (b) make easter eggs with the girls!
