Rain, Rain, Go Away…

by Maile Girl on March 22, 2011

… just kidding! I like the rain. You don’t need to go anywhere 🙂

On Sunday, Daddy took me out for a bus ride and long walk home. He didn’t bring an umbrella so when it started raining, we got a little wet. I didn’t mind at all – ever since Hawaii, I like splashing around in the rain.

(Dad note: I do blame Maile’s current sniffles on this outing in the rain – but look how happy she is – how could I say no? BTW – I made this video fully on the iPhone using the new iMovie app. I used it to merge two clips and it was incredibly simple and fast too. Highly recommended.)

One last thing, my daddy was nominated as a “top daddy blogger” by Circle of Moms. Kind of cool (and since I give him all the material, I believe it reflects positively on me too 😉 Go vote for us (it only takes a few seconds): http://www.circleofmoms.com/top25/daddy-blogs?trk=t25_daddy

New Shoes

by Maile Girl on March 21, 2011

On Saturday after I woke up from my nap, Mommy and Daddy told me we were going on an adventure. We jumped in the car and drove for a long time – we even went over the big bridge – and ultimately we ended up at this enormous store. The biggest store I have ever seen! (Dad note: it was Super Target).

The store was awesome. I ran up and down all the aisles. I got a few presents and Daddy got shampoo. My best present was new shoes! At first I told Mommy I wasn’t so sure about them, but once I got home and tried them on, I knew they were awesome. I think they make me faster. I spent Sunday running all over the house just testing them out – Daddy caught a little of it on video. Don’t I look faster?

A Double Double for Daddy

Maile Girl here. My daddy has been working very hard lately (March is his busiest time of the year). On Saturday, I decided he needed a break and suggested we head down to In N’ Out for lunch. (Word on the street that In N’ Out is like bananas and blueberries for daddies.)

I told Daddy, sit back and relax and I’ll feed you french fries …

(Dad note: I definitely enjoyed my lunch break with Maile Girl and Chris!)

Maile Girl here. Gramma and Papa (the Mommy version) are in town visiting. We’re spending lots of time together while Mommy and Daddy work. I’ve been showing Gramma and Papa the ropes of how things roll in Maile Girl world. Papa has an iPhone now, so I told him we should take pictures as we go about our day for the blog. So I guess you can consider this Papa Cal’s first ever blog post!

Check out my bling! Pretty, right?

I make Gramma walk at my pace - sometimes you just need to slow things down and smell the rose ... and check out the cracks in the sidewalk ... and touch every car on the street ... and walk up to every door....

We need to work on this…

by Maile Girl on February 28, 2011

Daddy came home from work today with a gift for me. A yo yo! I didn’t really know what a “yo yo” was, but I liked it right away because it was easy to say and you get to throw it. Strange thing – when my daddy threw the yo yo, it came right back to him … but when I throw it, it just stays on the ground. Maybe my yo yo doesn’t like me yet?

(Dad note: Thanks to the Circle of Moms crew for the yo yo schwag…)

On Saturday afternoon I was missing Mommy a lot. I think Daddy noticed this and so he said to me, “Hey Maile, do you want to go on a date with Daddy tonight?”

I asked Daddy to explain to me what a “date” was – after all, I didn’t want to just go willy nilly agreeing to anything. For all I know he was asking me if I wanted to go to the doctor’s office and get a shot! It was kind of funny, when I asked Daddy what a date was, he paused for a second and said, “A date is when you get dressed up and go do something fun … with your daddy.”

Only with my daddy? Yes, he confirmed, Daddy must be prominently involved. Seemed a little fishy to me, but time to figure that out later – for now I was excited to go out with my daddy!

First, we picked out an outfit.

Don't I look pretty?

Daddy got all dressed up too – like he does when Mommy and Daddy ditch me with the babysitter for the evening. Then we headed outside. We walked right passed the car, which I thought was strange. Daddy said he had a “surprise” for me. We walked down the street and then we waited on the corner. All of a sudden, possibly the coolest thing that has every happened to me occurred. You’ll never believe it. DADDY GOT A BUS TO TAKE US TO DINNER! A BUS! I was in such shock, I couldn’t even speak for the first half of the bus ride.

Daddy and I on the bus, I'm in shock, which is why my mouth is open like that...

(Dad note: Maile absolutely loved the bus ride. You would have thought I got a limo to pick us up.)

Unfortunately, the first two restaurants we went to were full. I tried to look as cute as I could and the hostesses genuinely looked pained as they turned us away. My Daddy is a resourceful guy though and he finally found a place for us to eat, Izzy’s Steakhouse.

The food looked okay, but I still brought my own...

Daddy looked so lonely without Mommy with us, so I insisted on sitting in his lap when his food arrived. He complained that it made it a little hard for him to eat, but I thought things went fine from my perspective.

We had a wonderful meal and we toasted (my milk, Daddy’s wine). I didn’t catch everything he said, but he did ask if I was enjoying my first Valentine’s date and I definitely said “yes, yes, yes”…

(Dad note: We’ll skip the end of the meal and the ride home – Maile wasn’t a happy camper – and just choose to remember the above. Maile Girl was a great Valentine’s date!)

Looking for some privacy

by Maile Girl on February 10, 2011

I love my Mommy and Daddy, but sometimes a girl just needs a little privacy. You know, to take care of some business. So lately I’ve been on the hunt for a good hiding place. Mommy and Daddy go into the room with the bathtub sometimes, but that just seems too obvious to me.

Under this table might work - I don't think anyone can see me...

... darn, busted! Daddy, do you mind?

... darn, busted! Daddy, do you mind?

(Dad note: Apparently, this is pretty common. Maile Girl doesn’t do it every time, but there’s a good chance that if we find her under the table, something is going down … literally.)

Toasting My Daddy

by Maile Girl on February 7, 2011

Today was my Daddy’s birthday. I woke him up in the morning with a big kiss and then tonight Mommy and I took him out for a birthday dinner. (Mommy paid, I brought the cuteness.)

I wanted to do something special for my Daddy’s birthday, so I decided to bust out my newest trick for the occasion. I noticed that whenever Mommy and Daddy drink the red stuff they knock their glasses together first. Even though I was just drinking my regular old white milk, I decided to show them that I knew how to knock the glasses together too. My first toast!

(Dad note: In fairness, Maile did this for the first time over the weekend, but this was the first time we caught it on camera. Working on getting her to say “L’Chaim” but she is having trouble with the “ch”…)

Stealing Dodo

by Maile Girl on January 30, 2011

My nanny, Megan, has a really cool boyfriend named Dodo. (Dad note: his name is actually Dolan, but the “lan” part was troublesome, so we just doubled up the “do”…) I’ve met him a few times and he’s just so much more mature compared to the other boys I’ve met so far in my 18 months of life. So I decided I’m going to steal him. Megan wants to share and I told her that would be okay, but secretly (between just us), I have a plan to take him all for myself. As the video below details, it involves dancing and blowing kisses. Do you think it will work?

Operation: Big Girl Slide

by Maile Girl on January 27, 2011

Maile Girl here and I’m a girl on a mission. Mommy and Daddy have been taking me to the park for a long time now. I watch all the big girls and boys playing on the swings and the see saw and, especially, the slide. I watched how they climbed up the steps and walked over the platform and sat down and then pushed off and went WOOSH down the slide. At first I thought it was a little scary, but more and more I’ve been thinking that it looks like a lot of fun. So last weekend I decided that I, Maile Girl, was going to go down the big girl slide … ALL by myself! I told Mommy to wait down below (Dad note: where she got a really cool angle on the shot) and headed up to the slide…

I loved it! I can’t wait to go back. Maybe this weekend?
