Maile Girl here. As my Daddy reported, last week at swim class I got a ribbon. I was pretty psyched, but also determined to show everyone it was no fluke. I had Mommy bring along the camera to document things and wanted to show all of you how great I’m doing with swimming. I’m not even afraid of putting my face in the water anymore (well, at least as long as I have goggles on). No, really – check out the proof below!
Hi, I'm Maile Fish and I'm learning how to swim!
First you take a deep breath...
... then you put your head ALL THE WAY IN THE WATER!
... and then you come back up for air so you can breath...
Piece of cake, right?
Yeah, I'm getting good at this 🙂
Mommy and Daddy went away this weekend and left Lauren and I home. Don’t worry Grandma Gail and Papa Cal came to stay with us! On Friday, I told Papa that we needed to send Mommy and Daddy pictures throughout the weekend so that they knew we were doing okay. And that’s exactly what he did!
On Friday night we went to Off the Grid and it was Onigri time for me!
Lauren hasn't discovered the joys of onigri yet, she is content with just her strap.
At the park, I showed Papa how to feed Lauren. (Dad note: Mommy and I really liked how Maile opened her mouth to show Lauren how it's done.)
This is Lauren showing off a bit by holding her own bottle - see Mommy and Daddy we don't need you around! Just kidding...
(Dad note: Thank you to Grandma Gail and Papa Cal for taking such good care of our girls while we were away!)
Mommy and Daddy have been a bit passive in teaching Lauren how to crawl. I’m tired of waiting around, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’m really, really excited for her to start moving. I’m thinking a few more lessons and she’ll be ready to rock on her own…
(Dad note: No Laurens were hurt in the filming of this video. Yet.)

So on my second day here, Papa Hawaii asks me, “Maile, do you want to learn how to make smores?” I had no idea what a smore was, but when Papa explained it involved marshmallows AND graham crackers I told him I was in. (To be perfectly honest, he had me at marshmallow!)
First you have your Papa make a fire and then you find a nice long stick and you place the marshmallow on the end of it...
... then you stand at a safe distance and heat the marshmallow over the fire. You have to make sure not to touch the coals at the bottom otherwise your marshmallow will get dirty.
NOTE: If you have a nice Papa, he'll let you eat one of the marshmallows he made while you are waiting for your to heat up!
Then you smush the marshmallow between two graham crackers and you are good to go! NOTE: Some people add chocolate too, but I don't like chocolate so I didn't.
I taught Lauren how to do it and she made sure that Daddy did it right too...
Mommy does my hair every morning. You may have noticed some of her creations in various pictures. I always feel so beautiful when she does my hair. She’s really good at it.
Daddy, on the other hand, is not as good at it. And, unfortunately, when Mommy goes away (like she did last week to New York), I’m subject to Daddy doing my hair. Let’s just say, the kids at school know when Mommy is out of town.
On Day #1, Daddy went with the pig tails. Not totally balanced, but passable...
On Day #2, he just simply forgot to do anything to my hair - yeah, in my face all day long. Thanks Dad.
On Day #3, he tried a few pig tails, but then resorted to the ol' pony tail. I think it stayed in for about 5 minutes when I got to school.
On Day #4, he added some clips to try to get things to stay put for longer. Let's just say those clips didn't come home with me.
On Day #5 - looking good, right? Yeah, Mommy came home that day.
Daddy went to Las Vegas with some friends last Thursday. He was only there for one night and was home to see us for dinner on Friday. Unfortunately for us, he wasn’t so much fun when he got home… I’ll have to look more into what this Vegas place is all about because it sure wiped out my Daddy!
Daddy wasn't so fun when he got home from Las Vegas...
Having a little sister is so much fun, I thought we should have another one!
Just kidding! It's still just me and Lauren 🙂
Maile Girl here – I know Daddy has been telling you all about our trip to DC. It was awesome! On Sunday, Mommy, Daddy and Auntie Elyssa took Lauren and me to the airplane museum (Dad note: the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum). It was so cool – there were airplanes and even rocket ships every where! I learned all about how they fly – I think I could probably fly one myself now. Seriously.
Things started off a little slow. Daddy asked me how I thought plans worked and I said you just push. That was wrong.
Daddy took me to the Amelia Earhart exhibit (I knew about her from one of my Fancy Nancy books) and I learned a bit more about how airplanes really work...
I practiced some of the basics a little bit...
... and then I was ready for some practice sessions in a real airplane!
I learned a lot, but the most fun was definitely pretending I was an airplane with Daddy and running all around - the real planes will come later I'm sure 🙂
Maile Girl here! This weekend was pretty cool – it was St. Patty’s Day which is a holiday where you eat green food! (Daddy said when I’m older I’ll do other things too – but I can’t imagine what could be cooler than green food!) And I’m not talking about vegetables like broccoli…
Mommy made me green eggs!
And then we got a green bagel!
So cool!
Grandma Gail made me butterfly wings. They are pink and I love them!
Notice anything different about me?
Yep, I have wings. Pink ones!
See!
I love them so much!
