It’s been two weeks since Lauren and I became sisters. So two weeks since the best thing ever happened! Daddy and Mommy have been taking lots of pictures (of course) – here are some of my favorites…

Mommy and Daddy are pretty tired, so I’m trying to help out wherever I can. Mommy is the main person that feeds Lauren, but she’s been so hungry that the doctor said to give her an extra little bottle of something called formula. It smells funny, BUT it comes in little bottles that I can handle no problem. So I get to help give Lauren the formula!
(Dad note: This is the 1,000th post I’ve made on this blog. Somewhat fitting that in many respects we are right back where we started 3.5 years ago! As the above shows, this time through we have an extra set of hands 🙂 Looking forward to sharing many more adventures in the years to come. Thank you for following along – it’s been a lot of fun sharing the joy that Maile (and now Lauren) bring to our lives!)

Maile Girl here. I know Daddy told you about my new sister, Lauren, yesterday – but I wanted to chime in with some of my own thoughts…
On Thursday, Mommy and Daddy told me that they were going to go back to San Francisco to have the doctors check out Lauren. They didn’t tell me she was definitely coming, but I had a feeling. I didn’t mind too much, I got to play with Grandma and Papa. On Friday, we took an airplane back to San Francisco and Daddy met us at the airport. He asked me if I wanted to meet my new sister. I said, “YES!” (of course) – sometimes Daddy asks me silly questions.
We drove over to the hospital and sure enough when I walked into the room there was Mommy and a little baby. My new sister! I didn’t even know her name yet, but as soon as I saw her, I knew I loved her. She was so tiny. It’s a good thing she has a big sister like me to look out for her. Mommy let me hold her right away. She was a little heavy, but I did okay. I’ve held her a bunch of times since – I like holding her. She is pretty much the most cuddly doll ever. But she’s real. Sometimes she yells – at first it scared me a little, but now I’m kind of used to it.
(Dad note: this video was taken a couple minutes after Maile first met Lauren and is the first time she heard her new sister’s name!)
(Dad note: We came home from the hospital today. Everyone is doing great. As evidenced above, Maile absolutely adores her little sister. She’s adjusting pretty well to having a fourth member of the family around. A few tears here or there and definitely some vying for Mommy’s attention, but all in all, she’s been great. Maile Girl is going to be a great big sister!)

Santa is a good man. Such a busy day and he took the time to come visit my cousins, Jake and I! I couldn’t believe it. One minute we were playing and the next minute the big guy was here giving us presents! It’s because I was a good girl this year. I was very brave – no tears, but Katie did have to hold my hand. (Dad note: you can see how we did last year and the year before.)
This is going to be surprising, but Daddy captured the whole visit on video!

Maile Girl here. GUESS WHAT?! Katie and Emily are here! Yes, in San Francisco! At my house! I showed them my room and my toys and we colored and played games and slurped noodles and ran around and cuddled and read books – and that was all in just the first couple of hours! We are already having so much fun and we haven’t even gotten to Disneyland yet! (Dad note: we are all headed there after Christmas.)
(Dad note: Christine and I have been playing A LOT of Candyland since Maile got it for Hanukkah so we are very happy to add some new players into the mix.)

Daddy often shows me dance moves (between you and me, some of them are kind of funny). The other night, I dressed up in my new princess gown and Mommy showed me some tips of how a real princess dances. I felt magical!

… Daddy got us matching jammies! Every year for Christmas Daddy buys Mommy and me matching jammies – they are absolutely my favorite things to wear! Last year, he bought a set for him too – so we have a whole family that gets to wear the same thing to sleep! This year, he switched it up and got Hanukkah jammies instead of Christmas jammies AND he also got a pair for my little sister 🙂 I can’t wait to wear them with her!

This morning Daddy said I was going to get to meet a new friend. He wasn’t kidding when he said “new” – his name was Will and he was only 3 months old! That’s definitely baby territory. I was all excited to show my mommy and daddy what a good big sister and helper I could be! Will was so small and cute – and much lighter than I expected. I was able to hold him in my arms no problem – I told mommy and daddy that I could carry him downstairs, but they said that probably wasn’t the best idea. I was very gentle with him and gave him kisses on his forehead, he seemed to really like that. He wasn’t all that interested in my toys, but I really liked it when he gripped my finger tightly.
I had a lot of fun playing with Will and it only got me more excited to meet my little sister!
(Dad note: It was amazing watching Maile with Will – made our hearts melt with how gentle she was with him and how much love she showed him. We can’t wait for her to meet her new sister either!)

On Sundays, Mommy is always writing letters in little square boxes. I asked her what she was doing and she told me it was a “crossword” – she said she’d show me how to do it. It’s fun! You need to figure out a word from a clue and then your Mommy shows you what the letters are and then you fill it in the boxes. Mommy said I did a really good job for my first time!

I forget if I already told you this, but I’m going to be a big sister soon! Right after Christmas, Mommy says. That’s just two more pages in my calendar (Dad note: we bought Maile a calendar to mark off the days.) She’s getting bigger and bigger in Mommy’s belly. Mommy says she kicks her, I try to feel it, I think I can, but it’s hard to tell sometimes. Today, after bath, though, I definitely felt an arm. Or maybe it was a leg.
She’s going to be the best little sister ever, I can’t wait to meet her!
