Guess who came to visit for the past several days? Yep, Grandma and Papa Boston! So much fun. They picked me up from school on Thursday afternoon and we went non-stop. We hit museums and parks and went shopping, lots and lots (and LOTS) of eating. The highlight was definitely on Friday when Grandma and Papa came to school with me! How cool is that? Papa talked to all my classmates about being a dentist and Grandma handed out mirrors so we could look at our teeth. We all got to ask questions too. I was so proud to have my Grandma and Papa come to my school!
Grandma and Papa picked me up after school and we hit downtown...
Papa and I goofed around - he's so silly!
Grandma and I hit the stores - I showed her all the dressies that I liked...
Papa was my transportation - I hope his back isn't too sore!
3 generations all together for Daddy's birthday!
My birthday is in July. But my daddy’s birthday is on February 7th. He’s going to be pretty old, more than 3 I think. We celebrated on Sunday and I helped him blow out the candles. We both made wishes. I hope mine comes true (his too).
(Dad note: My birthday is always a fun time to look back at how Maile has helped me celebrate. Check out last year and two years ago – which will absolutely blow your mind!)

Mommy has been sketching me again. Isn’t she talented? I hope I can draw like her one day!

(Dad note: In hindsight, I guess this was a Mommy and Maile weekend – Maile’s comments from Sunday make more sense 😉
On Sunday, Mommy and I went to the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers. I’m not so sure what that Conservatory word means, but man, were the flowers beautiful! The purple ones were my favorite.
Just like Dora, I had a map and I used to to find all the best flowers!
All the pretty colors were amazing, I had fun just looking at all the flowers....
... but I also had time to just run all around ...
... and to finish our day, Mommy and I sat on the steps and just took in the beautiful San Francisco day!
Guess what? Today is the Chinese New Year – we learned in school that it is different from the new year we celebrated in Hawaii because it’s based on the moon. I guess the moon was still sleeping or something. In any event, in Chinese you say xing nian kuai le (that means Happy New Year!)
On Friday my school had a big party to celebrate the new year. It was A LOT of fun. I got to run around with all my friends, eat lots of good food, listen to stories, sing and dance, AND, coolest of all, watch a lion dance.
As you can see from the video, I was really into the lion dance. Daddy kept trying to ask me questions and I’m like “can’t you see I’m trying to watch a lion dance here?” Sometimes that Daddy of mine…
Daddy did win a prize playing trivia though – he knew that 2012 is the year of the dragon (long nian). Check out the cool vest he won for me!
Mommy says I ate so much food that it was hard to snag a picture of me without something headed towards my mouth!
I hope everyone has a healthy and happy new year!
(Dad note: If you are interested you can see a bit more about the Chinese New Year celebration here.)

Daddy, this blog doesn't write itself - you think I can get a better setup?
Dad note: I’ll see what I can do, Maile Girl. Creative use of the shopping cart though!
Have you ever had a chocolate-covered strawberry? Grandma Jill and Papa Mike sent some to us as a treat. They’re pretty good … once you remove all the chocolate!

Everyone is always talking about the weather in Hawaii, but I thought the food really made my trip. Check out some of the highlights…
Shave Ice (of course)
Marshmellow (my first one!)
Cheetos on the beach
Noodles with chopsticks (my skills are improving!)
Chips - get in my belly!
Last year, I had my first shave ice. I was a little tentative going in, but ultimately decided it was pretty tasty.
This year, I went in very excited. Ever since we landed on Honolulu, Mommy had been promising a return trip to get some shave ice. I had to be a good girl all morning (which I was … mostly) and as a treat Mommy and Daddy took me to Waiola’s – which Mommy says is THE SPOT for the real deal shave ice.
The older I get, the more I enjoy the shave ice!
In that regard I take after my Mommy!
(Dad note: Christmas pictures are coming! Promise. Lots to go through and we’ve been having fun in the sun 😉

The weather here in Hawaii has been beautiful, but for some reason, the water in the hotel pool is FREEZING! We learned this the hard way after Daddy promised me we could go swimming.
We're going swimming, we're going swimming, we're going swimming!!!
Hey Maile, this water is pretty cold. Maybe we should come back another time?
Don't be a wimp, Daddy. Get in there - I'll be right behind you.
Oh man, he really went in! Hahahahaha!
This is so great. It does look freezing though - no way I'm going in...
... let's just take our pictures here, I'll sit right on the side like this.
Woah, woah - what are you doing?!?
Yes, yes, I love you too, Daddy, now let's head back over to the side...
That was cold, but fun. Happy to be back on dry land under these towels!
