I’m in the home stretch of my training for my annual Pan-Mass Challenge ride (I’d love your support if you’d care to donate!). On Saturday, I decided to step up my training and bring the girls along, Rocky IV-style. We rented bikes and rode up over the Golden Gate Bridge and down into Sausalito. It was a beautiful day and actually Christine’s first time biking with me over the bridge as well. We had a blast and it was definitely a good work out – needless to say, I will not be bringing that trailer on all 192 miles of the PMC!

The blog has been all about Maile Girl this week since it was her birthday. But 2.5 year old Lauren is making moves as well. Christine started potty training with her when they were in Hawaii a couple weeks ago. She’s making pretty good progress – today alone she went in the potty 6 times(!), but still had a couple accidents.
She’s working hard though and is quite pleased with herself – as this picture shows…
We’re very proud of our little girl!

Maile had her birthday party on Sunday over at Nagata Dance where she takes dance class. Ms. Nagata put on a great party for Maile and her friends – and she was absolutely masterful keeping the kids entertained and paying attention.
Maile had a blast playing all the different games and dancing around with her friends. She was awesome with Lauren too – making sure she felt included – just a model big sister.
Good times had by all and a great way to celebrate turning 6!

Last week while the girls were in Hawaii I did a deep clean of our apartment. In the process, I discovered an old notebook that I had used to take notes back when Maile was born. I completely forgot this existed and reading over the notes, I also completely forgot some of the things that happened right around her birth (apparently Christine made blueberry pancakes the morning she went into labor!)
It was great fun re-reading these notes again. I
Quite a ride!

Thank you Grandma Gail and Papa Cal for taking care of my girls all last week. By all accounts they had an amazing time. Special thanks for letting us get Lauren going on the potty training in your home instead of ours 🙂

Last week while Maile was in Hawaii we would have little chats in the afternoon over Facetime. For some reason they felt different than our normal conversations. We talk all the time, of course, but when we are home there always seems to be something else competing for our attention – a toy, a game, a little sister. Getting 10 minutes just the two of us is pretty rare. Christine says Maile often blabbers to her on the way home from school, but by the time I get home from work, I don’t get quite as much detail. I guess since I was not there, I was privy to the “blabber” – and I loved it. It was really nice just talking with her, hearing about her day, telling her about mine. Goofing around a little bit. And yes, some tears too.
She also seemed older to me – made me realize how crazy it is that in just a few short days she will be 6 years old.
In any event, I really enjoyed it. Going to find some ways to make it a more regular occurrence even when we are both home in SF!

As you know Maile attended this great camp at the Tinkering School last week. They posted a video on their blog today about what the kids built and I thought I’d share:
They also wrote blog posts all week long (which I didn’t realize until today) that tells a fun story about the week:
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday

On Saturday, Christine took the girls to visit Grandma and Papa Hawaii. I received a text message when they landed and it seemed like mere minutes later I was already receiving videos of the girls jumping around in the backyard pool. My imagination has it that they literally threw their bags in their room, jumped into their bathing suits and were half way out the door before Mommy, Grandma and Papa could catch up…
BTW – Lauren 100% gets an “A” for effort in this video. Her determination to copy anything Maile does is awesome.

Two years ago on our summer trip to Hawaii Lauren learned how to sit up by herself…
Christine is taking the girls to Hawaii on Saturday for the week (I, unfortunately, am missing this trip). Can’t wait to see what the girls figure out on this trip!
