Saturday was Maile’s first swimming lesson! We were sad that Daddy was in Boston and couldn’t come with us. But we made up for it by having Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal visiting SF. Just in time to help serve as Maile’s paparazzi. A special thanks to Grandma Jill and Grandma Gail who made sure I will be very fashionable at the pool.
Getting ready for my lesson
When Maile got to the pool she had an extra surprise! Her friend Allison was in the same class. We are so excited we get to see her and her mommy Stephanie every week as we learn how to swim!
Two bathing beauties
Look at Maile showing off her water skills! What a natural!
Practicting the forward crawl...if it doesn't work on land, maybe it'll work in the water
Maile’s swim instructor also gave Grandma and Grandpa a preview of our future swim lessons (unfortunately they can’t come up every week for her lessons). While not thrilled about this “advanced” lesson, I think she handled it like a champ!
We both had a great time at our lesson! And can’t wait to see what we learn next week!
Phew, that was fun!

Saturday was a beautiful day here in San Francisco (not rubbing it in – just stating the facts!) Its been pretty rainy lately, so we decided to take advantage of the weather and head out with Maile girl. First we went out to lunch – since Maile eats solid foods now, we just take her food with us. After we ordered Mommy fed Maile and then she played and kept us company while we ate our meal. I felt like I was on a double date with my two favorite girls!
After lunch we went to the park. We had taken Maile to the park before, but she was always too little to really play on any of the rides. Not anymore. Now that Maile can sit without any problem we thought she was ready for the swings. Boy, were we right! She absolutely loved the swing – I think it might be her new favorite thing – even better than bouncing. (Which is saying a lot because Maile LOVES bouncing!)
I think the videos below make it pretty clear how much fun Maile was having. We will definitely be heading back to the park very soon!

Today I celebrated my very first Valentine’s Day! The celebration actually started on Friday. Megan (our nanny) brought Hannah and I our very first Valentine’s Day gifts. She also helped us make gifts for mommy and daddy – how cool is that?!
Megan gave Hannah and I really cute Valentine's Day teddy bears! I love mine - its so soft and yummy!
This is me just double-checking that Hannah's bear is the exact same as mine - hey, a girl has to be sure!
Before mommy and daddy went to work, I gave them the gift that Megan and I made them. Its a picture of me of course, but with a home-made frame! We worked all week on it, I couldn't have done it without Megan (mostly because I don't quite know how a scissors works yet!)
All in all, we had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend – I’ll write more about it in another post. I hope all of you had a nice Valentine’s Day as well!
Happy Valentine's Day from Maile girl to all of you!
Today was my 7 month birthday! I think its going to be sad when we stop celebrating these birthdays every month – I like it when mommy and daddy sing to me! This month’s birthday was pretty low key, but I had fun before bed time playing around with mommy and daddy.
First, since I’m doing a better job standing on my own, we started a new tradition. Mommy and daddy measured me against the wall. They drew a line that my head reached to and then wrote my name and the date on the wall. I guess that means its cool to draw on the wall? Good to know.
Mommy still has to help me stand a bit, but I have a feeling I'll be doing it on my own very soon!
My first measurement - 26 inches high (although I think I'm a little taller - I was 27 inches at my last doctor's appointment). Or maybe I shrunk??
After that we horsed around a bit – definitely my favorite thing to do. My mommy and daddy are great fun!
My mommy is so silly - she's upside-down!
Hold on a sec, my fingers are really small, let me stick them in your mouth and nose...
Wait! Now I'm the one who is upside-down. Wheeeeee!
Today was my daddy’s birthday. I wanted to do something special for him, so I asked mommy to accompany me on a little “happy birthday” song for him. Mommy took the lead vocals and I played the giggles and the smiles. Daddy told me it was his favorite rendition of “happy birthday” he’s ever heard – so I guess I have a future playing the giggles and the smiles!
Lately, I’ve gone to read my magazines and noticed big wet spots and bent pages all over. Maile’s love of eating her reading material would be odd … if it didn’t clearly run in the family!
On Saturday, Maile put on her Duke Blue Devil gear and we got ready to watch the Duke/Georgetown game on TV. It was Maile’s first college basketball game and since both teams were ranked in the top ten, we thought it would be a good one. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils did not come to play and the Hoyas blew them out of the arena.
Poor Maile. I had prepped her by telling her how great Duke was and now she’s just really confused about what “good” basketball really is. She told me she’d give them another chance, but she’s just not sure she can throw her loyalties behind a team that put forth such a lackluster effort. I told her I completely understand and that we won’t make her wear her Duke gear for a little while. She said that probably made sense until Duke proves their worthy of her fanhood.
Mommy and Maile before the game - we're getting all pumped up!
Daddy and Maile - if it's not obvious, this was taken AFTER the game. Duke got blown out. So embarrassing. I tried to comfort daddy by being extremely cute. He said it helped.
They say the first step to overcoming something is admitting it. A few weeks ago I was getting all fancy by holding my own bottle and eating solid foods – basically, telling my mommy that I was moving on. Well, I’m ready to say that I haven’t quite mastered this whole eating thing and I still need my mommy’s help. Luckily, she is more than happy to help me out … after she takes a quick video to make sure I don’t forget!
