Halloween 2014 – The Bees!

by Papa K on November 2, 2014

Back in the summer Maile told Grandma Gail that she wanted to be a bee for Halloween. Like she always does, Grandma Gail set to work and delivered another incredible costume for the girls!

On top of the great costumer, we were also lucky to have Auntie Elyssa in town. She decided to dress up to as the “Auntie Bee” – Maile was so excited when she found out that Auntie was dressing up too.

Auntie joined Maile at school for the PKS Halloween party and then we met up with some friends to hit up Avila Street for some serious trick or treating. (And I mean serious – there were hundreds of people out and every house was stocked with candy.) Auntie chased after Maile going house to house and Mommy and I had the pleasure of escorting Lauren. It was so much fun – she insisted on walking (just like her big sister) the entire time. She would go up to each house, wait for them to lower the bowl of candy to her height, pick out her piece and then say, “Tank you”, before moving on to the next house. I died of cuteness every time she said “tank you.”

A wonderful Halloween – thank you Grandma Gail (as always) for the costumes and Auntie Elyssa for buzzing around with our girls!

After spending the day with Mommy, Auntie and the rest of the girls getting all ready and pretty, the time came for the actual wedding. Lauren joined Maile, Chris and I at the wedding ceremony and then hung out for the cocktail hour before heading home to get some baby sleep. Maile Girl stayed for the whole reception and danced for pretty much the whole night. We had been having some dance parties at home in preparation and I think I created a dancing monster. So much fun dancing the night away with Maile Girl!

Maile Girl here. It’s been a few days since Daddy or I checked in – we apologize! On Thursday, Mommy and Daddy woke me up and instead of going to school, we rode in an airplane all the way to Boston to see Grandma and Papa … and Auntie Elyssa! I’ve been having so much fun with them! I’ll post about some of my adventures over the next couple of days…

For now proof positive that I’m a happy girl!

Just us girls :)

Ballet Class with Auntie

by Papa K on September 11, 2011

This weekend we flew cross country and then drove up to Vermont (about 4 hours from Boston) for a good friend’s wedding. Maile Girl braved the trip (she was a total trooper with all the travel!) and Auntie Elyssa joined us as well to get some quality time in with Maile and help out while we were attending all the wedding festivities.

Maile had a great time with Auntie Elyssa. Auntie definitely kept her busy with lots of art projects and activities. My favorite was when they went exploring outside and Christine and I caught Auntie giving Maile her first ballet lesson. The video below is from the tail end of it – once she saw us, we kind of ruined it, but she was practicing all the moves and copying everything Auntie did for a good 5 minutes. One of those memories we won’t soon forget…

On Sunday, we had a girls day at the beach, mommy, Auntie Elyssa, Grandma Jill and me. It was so much fun hanging with the ladies, playing in the sand, splashing in the water and eating plums. Yes, eating plums are a big part of the beach in Swampscott apparently…

Auntie Elyssa took good care of me at the beach - it was really hot, so she made sure I was properly hydrated.

The water was WAY colder than it is on Hawaii, but I still liked splashing around in it. I'm a tough little girl!

The water was cool, but the highlight of the beach was this plum. I can't even decide what part I want to bite next - so yummy!

Hanukkah with Auntie Elyssa

by Papa K on December 2, 2010

Last week I pulled Auntie Elyssa aside and mentioned to her that Daddy really didn’t know what he was doing when it came to Hanukkah. I asked her if maybe she could show me the ropes a bit and then I could help Daddy along with the songs and everything. Auntie Elyssa thought this was a great idea, so we did a practice run of the first night of Hanukkah on Sunday night before she left.

I’m a lucky girl because Auntie Elyssa sure knows her stuff! She showed me how to light the menorah and then we played dreidel … and then I got presents! Now I feel like I’m all prepared to show Daddy how things are done when we get back to San Francisco.

First we lit the candles and sang the Hanukkah prayers...

Mini Maile

by Papa K on November 28, 2010

When we arrived in Boston, Grandma Jill was all excited to give Maile an early Hanukkah gift. Grandma Jill had been searching far and wide to find a doll that looked like Maile – meaning that she wanted Maile to have a hapa doll. She finally found the perfect doll – it was a Lots to Cuddle Babies doll. As you are about to see, these dolls are scary realistic (some might even say creepy).

Mommy: Wow Maile, it looks like your very own baby! Maile: Do all babies come in boxes for Hanukkah? Mommy: Umm... let's go with "yes" for the time being...

Auntie Elyssa Comes to Visit

by Papa K on April 5, 2010

There's someone here to see me??

There's someone here to see me??

Yep, we had a surprise for Maile on Friday afternoon – Auntie Elyssa came in for a visit! Last time Auntie Elyssa saw Maile was over Thanksgiving – she’s changed quite a lot in the past 4 months!

Elyssa jumped right in with helping to take care of Maile and playing with her – and cooking great meals for mommy and daddy. We all agree, Auntie Elyssa can come visit anytime she wants!

Thank you for coming to visit me Auntie Elyssa - I love you!

Maile’s Trip to Chicago

by Maile Girl on October 27, 2009

Meeting My Great Grandparents!

Meeting My Great Grandparents!

I’m a lucky girl. Mommy and daddy make me feel that way all the time (and Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal and Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike – basically the list goes on and on…)

This weekend I was reminded of that fact once again when I journeyed to Chicago to meet daddy’s side of the family. It was great fun and I was definitely the center of attention. I loved meeting everyone and I was so happy that everyone came in to see me!

I felt especially lucky to meet my great grandparents – from what I’m told not everyone gets to do that. I have 3 great grandparents – Grandpa Mike’s parents and Grandpa Cal’s mom. (I’ll meet Great Grandma Kiyoko when we go to Hawaii for Christmas.)

True story: when I came in the room to meet Great Grandpa Irv, he looked at me and said, “Oh the baby, isn’t she sweet!” I’m told Great Grandpa Irv was always quite the charmer and we instantly became fast friends. I really enjoyed visiting him. (Check out the video below – apparently, the paparazzi heard about our visit and was ready with the cameras…)

After meeting my great grandparents, I went and met my dad’s sister, Aunt Julie and my mom’s side of the family. I got passed around like a hot potato and received lots of love from all comers.

Last, but certainly not least, I also got to spend some quality time with my Auntie Elyssa. It was really nice to see her again, we chatted for awhile and I caught her up on all my fun adventures.

It was a quick trip, but a great start to the Maile World Tour ’09 – next stop Boston for Thanksgiving and then on to Hawaii in December!
