I love trees. Whenever I go walking with Mommy and Daddy I always point at the trees and say “thee” – so imagine how excited I was when I arrived at Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal’s AND THEY HAVE A TREE INSIDE THEIR HOUSE!
Grandma explained to me that it was only temporary for Christmas. Still pretty cool in my book. In any event, in addition to having a tree in their house, Grandma informed me that we also get to decorate with lights and pretty ornaments. And I got to help!
First, Grandma Gail gave me some instructions...
... then Daddy gave me a few pointers ...
... and then I was on my own!
So many ornaments, so little time...
Fun, what's next!?
Since I was in a decorating mood, I decided to decorate my clothes...
As some of you already know, Grandpa Cal is a HUGE golfer. So no big surprise that when he got home from work and the rainy skies cleared, he headed out back with Maile and proceeded to teach her the finer points of the game. Grandma Gail chipped in with some putting tips as well.
Dad note: I was inside while this was going on. The funny thing is that judging by this video (which was taken by Mommy), Maile and I now probably have the same handicap.
On Saturday we left rainy San Francisco and arrived in … rainy Hawaii! But at least it is warm here (and the rain should go away in a couple days). We’re visiting Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal for our annual Christmas pilgrimage and couldn’t be happier to spend some time with family and get some much needed R&R (and we mean it – Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal keep Maile hours, so in theory we should get some extra hours of sleep!)
More to come as our trip develops, but here is how we kicked things off…
Very happy to be here with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal!
Apparently Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal are a little out of practice with the "look at the camera, not the baby" rules - luckily we have a couple weeks to figure it out...
On Saturday we headed down to the Farm for the Stanford/USC game and our first tailgate of the 2010 season.
Don't I look cute in my Stanford gear?
Daddy asked me to bring him a beer, but I can't quite get it open. Hmm...
Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal came along too!
Tailgates are exhausting!
After Maile Girl passed out (I believe from exhaustion, but she and Wills were spending a lot of time over by the beer bucket – is she already sneaking them by me?!?) – Grandpa Cal and I attended the actual game. Fantastic game – came down to the final second when this happened:
On Thursday morning, the doorbell rang at about 6:30 in the morning. Who rings a doorbell at 6:30 in the morning? Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal, that’s who! Straight in from Hawaii just to see little ol’ me.
Grandpa Cal jumped right in and fed me breakfast. He didn't eat anything, but I think he would say it was one of his favorite meals ever!
After breakfast, I took Grandma Gail out on the stoop and caught her up on everything new in my life.
We had quite the weekend – I’ll catch you up over the next few days…
I can’t believe our week in Hawaii is already over – so sad! I had so much fun – especially getting to spend time with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal. Even though I can’t say “thank you” yet – daddy said that taking these adorable pictures with them would more than suffice!

(Dad note: kudos to mommy for taking some great pictures! We’re already counting the days until we come back in December…)
Maile girl is about a month away from her first birthday. Since we won’t be able to celebrate with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal on Maile’s actual birthday, they decided to throw Maile a mini-party here on Hawaii. Consider it a kick off to the festivities complete with presents and Maile’s first taste of ice cream!
All of these? For me?

Mommy teaching Maile that you always read the card first...
Thank you Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal for all my fun gifts!
After the presents it was time for the ice cream. Very early on (before Maile was even born I believe), Grandpa Cal requested that he be the one to first introduce Maile to ice cream. We thought that was a great idea and all agreed that her first birthday would be the right time to start developing her sweet tooth.
Here’s take #1 of Maile trying ice cream for the first time (yes, it took multiple takes…):
Clearly didn’t go as smooth as we were hoping – after a utensil correction, we nailed it on take #2:
Still not wildly in love with the ice cream – although I will say she warmed up to it a bit after we put the camera down. I guess for now we’ll leave it as a TBD whether she develops her Grandpa’s love of ice cream!

My Grandpa Cal is a judge. Today we went to visit him at his court house. I figured since Grandpa Cal is retiring in 2012 I would audition to be the next judge on Kaua’i. How do you think I did?
Wait! I'm innocent. I swear! I'm being framed... Heeeellllp me!
Whew. That was close - mommy came and saved me!
Okay Grandpa. Break it down for me. To be a Judge, I have to read ALL of these books behind me? Do they have pictures? I'm mostly working with books that have pictures these days...
Now this is what I'm talking about. This tastes ... powerful.
Seriously - let's get these puppies added to the baby registry. New. Favorite. Toy.
Be honest. How does this look?
What's that? I don't need to wear anything under this? Not even a diaper? Nice. I'm liking this judge deal!
Well, I’ve been in Hawaii for 24 hours and I can honestly say the highlight so far has been playing with my Grandma and Grandpa again. I’m absolutely fascinated with my Grandpa’s face – I keep grabbing it – that man has a great chin! And even though I was a bit fussy today, I still had fun playing with Grandma Gail – I was just fussy to keep her on her toes a bit 😉
Grandma Gail gave me a tour of the neighborhood - she's a great guide!
Hmm... you do look familiar - let me check a few things out...
