Last week after the PMC, we headed to Cape Cod (Chatham specifically) for a week of fun with Grandma, Papa, Auntie Elyssa and some other friends. We rented a great house for the week and spent a lot of time on the beach. We’re not normally a big “spend every day at the beach” family – but we went for it this time and had a blast.
The beach we spent our time at was called Ridgevale Beach. It was an awesome beach for families – one of the best I’ve been to (outside of Hawaii, of course ;). On one side there were tide pools that the kids absolutely loved running through and searching for crabs. On the other side was a solid beach and a sand bar that was fun to swim out to. Water was warm and calm and we let the girls run wild – and they loved it.
Watch out beach, here comes trouble...
... and she brought her friends Maile and Papa Mike too!

The tide pools were perfect for Lauren to run and swim around in...
The only way we could keep them still...
A great beach is even better with great friends like Jordy!
Every time I go back to Boston I always have so much fun catching up with my east coast friends.
This time I met two new friends, Adam and Tyler. They are just babies so as a big two year old, I knew it was my job to take care of them. (Hint, hint, mommy and daddy – I can handle this big sister thing!) I sang some songs to Adam – I think he liked them…
On Sunday night, I saw my good friend Alex – her birthday is the week before mine, so we celebrated together with some pizza and a very special cake that Grandma Jill made just for me!
Pizza with Alex - she is so cool, I learn so much when I hang out with her...
Elmo! Grandma Gail sends Elmo to live with me and Grandma Jill makes me an Elmo cake - I am one lucky little girl!
Then on Monday, I went out to dinner with one of my oldest friends, Jordy – and we goofed around and just had so much fun.
Making funny faces with Jordy
Best. Friends.
I can’t wait to go back to Boston and see everyone again!
As I mentioned previously, on Sunday I celebrated my birthday with a bunch of friends from the Boston area. Grandma Jill (especially), Grandpa Mike, mommy and daddy planned a really fun BBQ. I got to see some old friends I hadn’t seen since my last visit to Boston in November and I also made some new friends.
Below are some pictures from the festivities – I am definitely a very lucky girl and appreciate everyone who came over to help me celebrate!
Really? Must I wear the hat?
I'm glad I took the hat off, you guys look funny...
Playing at the party with my new friends, Jordy and Alex - they are 4 and 5 years old - basically the same age as mommy and daddy. I learned a lot from them!
This is how I see the world. Everyone is so tall.
Check out the AMAZING cake that Grandma Jill made! She made it completely from scratch and designed the dress to match the dress I was wearing at the party. At first, I was a little nervous that my guests might get confused and eat me instead, but everything worked out okay...
I asked mommy and daddy to help me blow out the candles, but my wish was all my own!
Today was Maile’s first birthday and we celebrated with a little BBQ at Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike’s. (We’ve been in Boston since Wednesday for a friend’s wedding and to celebrate Maile’s birthday with the Koidin side of the family.) We’ll share more details from the BBQ tomorrow, but we couldn’t wait to share a couple videos that we thought were hilarious.
Maile has started to learn how to show affection – we call it “love, love” – basically if I’m holding her and I say “love, love Daddy” – she’ll give me a big Maile hug. Its pretty much the cutest thing ever (and Christine and I basically melt when she wraps her little arms around us to give a hug).
In any event, today at her birthday party she made some new friends, including Jordy and Meryl, and couldn’t help giving them big ol’ Maile hugs. The second video in particular is a must watch…
