(Dad note: be sure to watch the final video in this post. You won’t be disappointed.)
We’ve been exploring more and more of the city on the weekends. On Sunday, Mommy led us on a fun excursion to the Seward Slides mini-park over in the Castro. The slides are these two long (and steep) concrete slides that you can ride down on pieces of cardboard.
So those were some shots getting to the top… how did it go going down the slide? Well…
Maile Girl started strong and then had second thoughts…
So Daddy agreed to go down with her the first time. Which was a good idea. Sort of. Daddy forgot that his younger daughter is slightly more adventurous than her big sister. So then this happened…
Awesome.

March Madness is always an exciting time around here (well, a very busy time in which I am eternally grateful for Christine picking up the extra slack while I spend some extra time on Team Rankings). We sat down tonight and set to work on our brackets. Figured we’d post this in plenty of time in case anyone wants to use Maile and Lauren’s picks.
Maile’s completed bracket is … interesting. She’s big on the 15 over 2 upsets, taking New Mexico St, Texas Southern and Belmont all to advance. She also is knocking off #1 seeds Villanova and Wisconsin in round 1. In fairness, Wisconsin is playing Coastal Carolina and as soon as she heard “Carolina”, Maile wanted to pay homage to where Mommy and Daddy met. In better news – Maile also remembered how important Duke is to our family and gave us a little smile as she advanced them each round. She has Duke winning the whole thing!
I’ve been interpreting Maile and Lauren’s brackets for years now and have gotten quite good at their pre-writing scribbles and lines. In looking at Lauren’s bracket, here are the highlights:
– She has Kentucky winning it all (seriously there is a line from Kentucky all the way to the middle!)
– She has #5 seed Arkansas going to the Final Four in the West Region
– She has #11 seed UCLA going to the Final Four in the South Region
– And she has Villanova going to the Final Four in the East Region
– She also likes #6 Xavier, #7 Wichita St, #5 W Virgnia and #10 Indiana to win a few games.

We had a fun visit this weekend from a couple of my really good friends from college that I’ve known since freshman year. They live down in Dallas now with their three kids and came out to visit us (and our other friends) here in San Francisco. On Sunday morning we got together for some hiking and fun at the Presidio Picnic.
Weather was fantastic and the hike was a really nice way to start the day. Looking forward to doing more of that, especially as Lauren gets a bit older. (She really did a great job though keeping up and having fun exploring with all the kids).
Speaking of all the kids – I’m not sure what it was, but it really hit home with this visit and seeing all the kids how far we’ve come from freshman year in college. Times do indeed change, but good that friends don’t always do the same!

We arrived to prepare for the parade at 3 PM and didn’t finish up until 8:30 PM. What does one do during all that time? Lots and lots of pictures 😉

(Busy week so not enough time to do the full post, so yet another tease this evening…)
I think its safe to say Maile enjoyed herself 😉

As most of you know, Maile and her friends from school have been practicing for the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade since January. Costumes, dance routines, floats – everything came together over the past couple of months and Saturday was the big day. More than 1 million people lined the streets of San Francisco and Maile and her friends marched and danced their way right through it all.
It was awesome to see and Christine and I were very proud of our girl. We’ll share more stories and pictures from the day, but for now here is the “official” video one of the dads made – Maile only made a brief cameo, but you’ll hear more from her side later this week.

Maile’s really been enjoying the new YouTube Kids and all the videos they have around various arts and crafts activities. Over the weekend, she got excited about learning some new Rainbow Loom designs – Sunday morning she literally spent two hours working through different bracelet concepts.
She told me that she wanted to make some bracelets for my friends at work. I came up with the idea of creating an order form that she could use to ask people what colors they wanted in their bracelets. She got VERY excited about that … and thus was born “Rainbow Loom Braselits By Maile” 🙂
If you’d like your very own Maile Braselit – fill out the order form here!
She can crank one out every 7-8 minutes now – make sure you get in during this beta period while we are ironing out the kinks, next weekend I’ll be teaching her about pricing her product 😉
The best part – on Wednesday, Maile came to my office after school and hand delivered her bracelets to the team. Now that is customer service!

From two years ago…
They’ve changed so much … but in the best way, they are exactly the same. Going to be a fun ride watching these two grow up together.

Last week Grandma and Papa went and checked out Maile’s Hip Hop class and took some video. The dancing is fun as always, but mainly I’m just excited that Rusted Root is still in the rotation 🙂
