Nothing like ending the weekend with a little after dinner ice cream π

Many of our good friends have had success watching Star Wars with their little ones. I’ve been dying to watch it with Maile, but given that Doc McStuffins still scares her sometimes, I had my doubts.
The past couple of weeks I’ve started telling her about Princess Leia (with a stress on PRINCESS) and a bit about the different characters. On Saturday, it was time to give it a real shot. I decided to start with Episode IV (the original Star Wars).
Things did not start well – Maile basically said she was all set with Star Wars about 5 minutes in when Darth Vadar uses the Force to choke one of the pilots.
… but then a funny thing happened. I let Maile go color and I continued watching. And I noticed slowly but surely, she itched her way back over to watch. And then she started asking questions about R2D2 and C3PO. And who was Obi-Wan? And where were they going in the car? I had her! We watched the first 45 minutes, ending as Luke, Obi-Wan and the droids arrive in Mos Eisley.
“Daddy, is Luke going to help Princess Leia?”
Another fan is born!

Most of the time when I look at the girls, I see Christine with shades of me tossed in. I’m completely fine with this. Christine took a picture of the girls this weekend though where Maile was all me – and I love it.

The antibiotics kicked in last night and we had an after dinner dance party. Papa Mike thoroughly enjoyed the show and caught this great video. Maile started liking this Miley Cyrus, Party in the USA song a little while ago. When I told her the singer’s name was “Miley” – well then, she really started liking it. We have not really moved on to Miley’s more recent works…
Yeah, we’re feeling better.

Maile really got wiped out good this time. You might remember a week ago we said Maile had recovered after being sick the weekend before. Boy, were we wrong. She was fine for a couple days and then last Thursday night she got rocked again – high fever and a really bad cough.
It persisted throughout the weekend and it was so sad to see how exhausted and unwell she was. We took her to the doctor on Friday and they thought it was just a virus. On Monday we took her back again and they diagnosed her with strep throat – she started with the antibiotics and now she is much, much better. Fever has been gone since Monday night and we’re headed back to school in the morning.
Not good times – a lot of this going on the past week…

When she was home sick from school on Monday, Mommy and Maile decided to make their own word find game (inspired by the back of a Cheerio box I believe).
First Mommy made Maile a word find..
Then Maile made her own!

Maile is all better now, but she definitely wasn’t feeling well the past couple of days. She described it as having the “sleepies in her head” and she did indeed spend a lot of time on the couch and in our bed sleeping.
Lauren was very concerned about her big sister and insisted on keeping her company…

Maile Girl here. Did you know that today was my Mommy and Daddy’s anniversary? It celebrates the day they got married. I have them tell me the story all the time – it was a really fun day.
But I’m not here to talk about that – today, I wanted to tell you how to write a great anniversary card for your daddy. NOTE: This probably works for mommies too, but Mommy was the one helping me so this time we focused on Daddy.
First, head to the card store and find a good card. I like to find the music cards, but apparently they don’t make those for Anniversaries. Instead I got one with fishies on the cover kissing. Cute, right?
Next, ask a Mommy (your Mommy will do) to spell out all the nice things you want to say to your Daddy.
After you have your message, get to work writing it all out.
And make sure you have at least 10 “so”‘s at the end when you say “I love you so much” – trust me, it makes a big difference.

7 years ago I married Christineο»Ώ.
Fast forward to this evening. We had plans to go out to see a show (the nerdy type that both of us enjoy) and have a nice dinner to celebrate.
Unfortunately, Maile Girl woke up with a fever this morning and it only got worse as the day went on. (It seems like it finally broke about 30 minutes ago, but not before cranking up to 104.2!)
So we audibled out of the plans. (Well, I sent Christine along to the show anyways with a girlfriend while I held down the fort with the girls – and watched the Pats game π – and now Christine is cuddled up with Maile making sure she gets as good a night sleep as possible.)
Today was definitely one of those “life” days – certainly didn’t go the way you planned, but at the same time, makes you realize what is important and even though it wasn’t “fun” – it was perfect in all the right ways.
I’m pretty sure that Matt from 7 years ago had no idea what he was getting himself into … but I know he was hoping it was going to be something exactly like this.
I love you, Christine. Happy Anniversary π
