This week’s #tbt comes from 2011 – a video of Maile doing Mommy’s hair – something she still LOVES doing today…
And from more recently…

The next couple of days are going to be hot here in SF, so Maile’s teacher sent home a note saying they were going to have the sprinklers on at school so we should send Maile with a bathing suit, towel, etc.
So what is the picture above? Maile decided to make a checklist (left/red side for Mommy, right/black side for Daddy) with everything we needed to remember to bring tomorrow. Christine and I had no idea she was doing this – she just delivered it to us after dinner.
So what’s on the checklist? From the top:
– Bathing suit
– Towel
– Flip flops
– Backpack
– Water bottle
– Hat
– Sunscreen
– Lunch
– Yoga mat
We better not forget anything.

This is Christine’s new favorite video of the girls.
Apparently, Maile was sitting on the chair with this Where’s Waldo-style book and Lauren climbed up next to her and started combing her hair and “helping” her.
Love.

Soccer season is upon us and once again I’m coaching Maile’s soccer team, the U6 PKS Pandas. We had our second game this past Saturday. I’ve been really impressed with the difference in Maile and all the kids since last spring. The level of play has really increased – a lot more coordination, some sustained back-and-forths and much less of a situation where one really good player dominates the whole game (although there certainly are some kids that are clearly ahead of the pack).
Maile scored her first goal of the season on Saturday. It’s hard for me to take pictures since I’m on the field coaching, but I took this video before everyone arrived that gives a good feel for how much Maile has improved…

On Thursdays, I like to look back at old posts from the same day. First post I clicked was September 25th, 2012 and look what I found:
Original post is here.
Happy New Year, GG Irv. We miss you!

Tonight for Rosh Hashanah we had apples and honey with dinner. When Maile asked why, we told her it was a “tradition”. She asked us what a “tradition” was and we talked about how its something we do over and over again through the years to remember or celebrate something. Seemed appropriate that apples and honey on Rosh Hashanah would bring up this lesson.
And here we are way back in 2010 teaching Maile about apples and honey…
More here.
La Shana Tova to all our Jewish family and friends!

We’ve been doing a lot of dancing lately after dinner. Sometimes we dance with the girls and sometimes they just like to put on a show and have us watch. Lauren is basically Maile’s “hype man” – Maile does her moves and Lauren orbits around her. It’s awesome.

On Sunday Mommy and Maile went to the first PKS Community Service day of the year. Along with some of her classmates, the crew participated in the Coastal Cleanup Day. Every year, on the third Saturday in September, people join together at sites all over California to take part in the State’s largest volunteer event, California Coastal Cleanup Day. Maile and her friends were responsible for a creek in San Francisco.
Christine said it was a great experience – definitely looking forward to more opportunities to help out like this and happy that it is going to be a part of Maile Girl’s education.

Kelly (our nanny) had an appointment on Wednesday, so I left work a little early and went exploring with Lauren. Caught some shadow pictures which reminded me of some walks from long ago with Maile Girl…
