Christine and I are very, very excited for the “chores” era to begin. In fairness though, the girls kicked this one off on their own. Daddy typically empties the dishwasher in the morning – but Mommy and the girls are up first and they decided to dig in and help out! Love how they work together as a team too – cracked me up when Christine shared this video with me.

Last week Grandma and Papa Boston took Maile and Lauren over the bridge for a little exploring time at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Judging by the pictures they did exactly that and had a lot of fun doing it!
Art with an audience

Sisters exploring
Wow!
More drumming
How many kids do you think have taken a picture on this turtle?
Hmm... I'm going to figure this out...
Mission accomplished - two little girls conked out!

The text came in at 5:38 PM on Friday afternoon:
Guess who took 4 steps on her own?!?
And sure enough, when I arrived home a short while later, Lauren was ready to rock and show off her new fancy footwork for her daddy…
I went to the archive and Maile took her first steps on August 25, 2010. Incredibly they both started walking at exactly the same time (Maile was 46 days after her 1st birthday, Lauren was 48 days). Pretty crazy!
Here's to the many, many steps to come!

Last week was “ski week” so no school for Maile Girl. Or as I like to put it – “Ski week? I don’t get that at work, man, I hope one of the grandparents can come visit and help out with the girls”-week. This time Grandma and Papa Boston delivered coming out on Monday and spending the week with Maile and Lauren. And they had a blast all over San Francisco…
Hula Hooping with Grandma Jill...
Exploring the jungle gym with Papa...
Oh, there was ice cream!
Some quiet time reading books after running around all over...
And, of course, some fun dinners out at restaurants!
Thank you, Grandma and Papa for the good times and watching after our girls all week!

In the build up to the Olympics we started watching some ice skating with Maile and she absolutely loved it. From there she started pretending that our hard wood floor was ice and she’d skate around on her socks after dinner. Today, Mommy decided to introduce her to the real thing and they headed down to the Yerba Buena Skating Rink to try things out.
(Truth be told this was our second time trying to skate – two Christmases ago we had an aborted attempt at the rink they put up in Union Square. We lasted about 10 seconds on the ice that time. This time went WAY better…)
Holding on for dear life at the start ... but she got the hang of it pretty quick...
These buckets are genius - definitely don't recall that when I was little, but they worked out great - gave Maile lots of confidence on the ice to explore a bit on her own...
Mommy managed to capture some great short snippets of Maile’s first time out skating – I combined them into a video that captures it nicely I think…

I’m a lucky man to have these two cuties as my valentines…
My Valentines - Maile (4.5) and Lauren (13 months)
One more time 🙂
(Thank you to Grandma Gail for the matching Valentine’s Day outfits – and to Mommy, my O.G. Valentine, for the great shot!)
Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Last week we celebrated Chinese New Year with Maile’s whole school. We had a great time with all the other families. Certainly the highlight was seeing all the kids perform a song and dance on stage. This may shock you, but Maile feels at home up there 🙂

Directing traffic up on stage...
... and singing, singing, singing!
After stage time there was plenty of time to goof around with our friends...

Last Friday was my birthday and I decided that I wanted to “hit the club” to celebrate. Of course, instead of Saturday night club, it ended up being Baby Loves Disco on Sunday afternoon. This was our second time and once again we had a blast.
Maile, Lauren, Mommy and I danced up a storm – but it was clear that Maile was getting older. Towards the end, she was less interested in dancing with her Daddy and more interested in what was going on over by the booths…
So this is how they pick up the ladies these days...
Too bad I’m so old, I think I would have been good at this style 😉
On Saturday, Mommy introduced me to one of her favorite movies, The Sound of Music. I can’t really tell you what it is all about because we mostly just fast forwarded to the parts where the kids are singing. But the music was fun!
Mommy and me getting ready to watch The Sound of Music!
Towards the end, we just let the movie play through and I have to say, I really didn’t like the parts where the children weren’t singing. Their family gets chased by some bad men. I would recommend just fast forwarding through that part – I know I will be next time!
Get away Von Trapps! Get Away!
Oh man, I really don't like this part - can you let me know when the children are singing again?
(Dad note: I am thoroughly enjoying the beginning stages of Maile’s movie watching. I was in the other room when Christine started sending me these pictures – they just absolutely slayed me. I love her so much.)
Maile and Lauren make a good team. Lauren LOVES riding her toy car. And Maile LOVES pushing her in it 🙂
