It’s been two weeks since Lauren and I became sisters. So two weeks since the best thing ever happened! Daddy and Mommy have been taking lots of pictures (of course) – here are some of my favorites…

When Grandma Gail and Papa Cal were originally planning to leave on Sunday, we thought we’d be saying good-bye like this:
Instead, we said good-bye on Wednesday like this:
We can’t thank Grandma and Papa enough for changing around their flights and helping us settle in these few days. We will certainly never forget our Christmas and New Year’s vacation to Disneyland and the very special gift we received at the start of 2013!

Maile is quickly learning that babies do 3 main things: eat, poop and sleep. She’s a big fan of the eating process. She’s not as big a fan of the pooping part.

Mommy and Daddy are pretty tired, so I’m trying to help out wherever I can. Mommy is the main person that feeds Lauren, but she’s been so hungry that the doctor said to give her an extra little bottle of something called formula. It smells funny, BUT it comes in little bottles that I can handle no problem. So I get to help give Lauren the formula!
(Dad note: This is the 1,000th post I’ve made on this blog. Somewhat fitting that in many respects we are right back where we started 3.5 years ago! As the above shows, this time through we have an extra set of hands 🙂 Looking forward to sharing many more adventures in the years to come. Thank you for following along – it’s been a lot of fun sharing the joy that Maile (and now Lauren) bring to our lives!)

Maile Girl here. I know Daddy told you about my new sister, Lauren, yesterday – but I wanted to chime in with some of my own thoughts…
On Thursday, Mommy and Daddy told me that they were going to go back to San Francisco to have the doctors check out Lauren. They didn’t tell me she was definitely coming, but I had a feeling. I didn’t mind too much, I got to play with Grandma and Papa. On Friday, we took an airplane back to San Francisco and Daddy met us at the airport. He asked me if I wanted to meet my new sister. I said, “YES!” (of course) – sometimes Daddy asks me silly questions.
We drove over to the hospital and sure enough when I walked into the room there was Mommy and a little baby. My new sister! I didn’t even know her name yet, but as soon as I saw her, I knew I loved her. She was so tiny. It’s a good thing she has a big sister like me to look out for her. Mommy let me hold her right away. She was a little heavy, but I did okay. I’ve held her a bunch of times since – I like holding her. She is pretty much the most cuddly doll ever. But she’s real. Sometimes she yells – at first it scared me a little, but now I’m kind of used to it.
(Dad note: this video was taken a couple minutes after Maile first met Lauren and is the first time she heard her new sister’s name!)
(Dad note: We came home from the hospital today. Everyone is doing great. As evidenced above, Maile absolutely adores her little sister. She’s adjusting pretty well to having a fourth member of the family around. A few tears here or there and definitely some vying for Mommy’s attention, but all in all, she’s been great. Maile Girl is going to be a great big sister!)

As we did last year, we’re going to start the year with Maile’s school picture (taken a couple months ago at her school, Presidio Knolls). We’re not entirely sure what happened with her hair in this one – it certainly didn’t look like that when we dropped her off 😉

On Sunday, Grandma and Papa Hawaii treated Maile and her cousins to a princess transformation at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Basically, it’s a beauty salon where they give little girls princess makeovers which includes a fancy hairstyle and makeup. I’ll be the first to admit that Christine and I weren’t thrilled, but we weren’t going to have Maile sit out while her older cousins got to play princess … and Maile absolutely loved the experience!
Thank you Grandma Gail and Papa Cal for making our little girl’s princess dreams come true for a day!

On our second day at Disneyland, we got down to business and met some princesses! We actually spent the day at the California Adventure side of the park and started our day at Ariel’s Grotto where we had breakfast alongside “real” Disney princesses. Maile and her cousins were blown away that they actually got to meet the princesses. (With the exception of Minnie – Maile Girl still isn’t a fan of the non-human characters 🙂
First up, Maile and her cousins met the hostess, Princess Ariel:
And then it was just an ongoing stream of princesses while we ate breakfast (Belle, Cinderella, Princess Minnie and Aurora)…

On Wednesday, we hit the “big show” so to speak – we got up bright and early and drove over to Disneyland. It was definitely one of those times when I wished I could be inside Maile’s little head hearing/seeing/feeling what she was. We had talked up Disneyland a little bit, but there really is no way to describe it. When we entered the parking lot, she said “Is this Disneyland, Daddy?” Not yet Maile Girl, not yet.
We had a great first day at the park – hit some rides, wandered all over, smiled, laughed – all the things you are supposed to do at the happiest place on earth. And as you’ll see from the pictures, the day ended with Maile completely zonked – dreaming whatever little girls dream after their visit to a magical place…
All in all, a great first day at Disneyland! Thank you Grandma Gail and Papa Cal!
