“Daddy, do you have any Carrie Perry?”
“Katy Perry? Yes.”
“Yes, Carrie Perry. Play it! Play it!”
And so began our Thursday night dance party 🙂

This weekend Maile and I traveled to Boston so she could visit Grandma and Papa and I could ride in my 4th Pan-Mass Challenge.
The ride this year was pretty incredible. Saturday was some of the worst weather they have ever seen on the ride. Cold, hard rain for most of it. A decent number of crashes and 30+ people treated for hypothermia! Luckily, myself and the rest of my friends I ride with made it through just fine.
On the flip side, Sunday was a tremendous day of riding. Temperature was perfect and we easily had our best second day finishing in record time. As always, lots of good memories were made and it was honor to ride along side Ryan, Rob, Teddy, Adam, Tony and Drew.
On Sunday, we took a ferry back from Provincetown to Boston and Grandma, Papa and Maile came into the city to meet me.
You know that old Warrant song – “I don’t need to be the kind of the world / As long as I’m the hero to this little girl”?
Exactly.

Some of you might recall that Christine ran a half-marathon about 5 years ago when Maile was just a few months old.
Here’s a shot of Maile and the sign we made for Mommy…
On Sunday, Mommy hit the road again, this time running the San Francisco Half-Marathon. Our cheering party has, of course, increased my one as well 🙂
Maile was on the look out for Mommy as soon as we approached the race route. She thought she saw her about a dozen times before the real deal crossed the finish line and we showered her with hugs and kisses.
Of course, my favorite part was Mommy going through the food line after the race. She picked up a banana and a muffin. Lauren demanded the banana and Maile asked for the muffin. (They had only had 2 breakfasts already that morning.) That’s a mommy runner 🙂

It’s been awhile since we’ve done a full family picture. We snapped this one this weekend down at the Aquatic Park – we went down to watch our friend, Nate, do the Escape from Alcatraz swim!

We taught the girls limbo last night – good times ensued 🙂
(And yes, Lauren is wearing Maile’s underwear over her diaper. We are in the full-fledged “copy-everything-my-big-sister-does” phase!)

It’s not Thursday, but it is Grandma Jill’s birthday today and I couldn’t resist rolling back one of my all-time favorite Maile videos.
I’m happy to report that the birthday wishes went MUCH better this year 🙂
Happy Birthday, Grandma Jill – we love you!

For the past few days at dinner, I’ve been sitting next to Lauren. She eats her dinner and then when she is done, she stands up in her highchair, leans over and puts her dirty hands all over my shoulder. It gets my shirt all dirty. I was making a comment about it tonight when Maile piped up that she thought she could make me something to help.
(At summer camp Maile has been spending a lot of time in the fashion studio making pillows, backpacks and dresses. They’ve taught her how to sew a bit and how buttons work, etc.)
After dinner, Mommy and Maile disappeared into the bedroom for a bit and when they returned, Maile had a new fashion invention to show me!
They cut up an old shirt to cover one of my shoulders and then they sewed a button in the sleeve so I could close it around my arm. Genius!
Here’s Maile explaining the specifics…
And as Maile says in the video, if you have a good name for her invention let us know and you’ll get some sort of prize that allows you to sit wherever you want (that part wasn’t immediately clear 😉

3(!) years ago – June 27, 2011…

On Monday, Maile and I headed to the Giants/Cubs game. It wasn’t her first trip to the ballpark, but it was the first in a couple years and she’s a bit older now to enjoy things. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we had great seats (courtesy of our old neighbors) behind home plate with a view of the whole park, the water, everything.
We lasted about 5 innings – I
Definitely a fun way to spend the afternoon – looking forward to doing it again soon!
