On Friday, Daddy asked me if I wanted to go swimming in a pool. I looked at him for a second – OF COURSE, I wanted to go swimming in a pool! He told me a friend of his, Uncle Jared, was having a pool party for his birthday. I thought this was a little weird, because I couldn’t imagine too many people could fit in the pool that Grandma Gail and Papa Cal have in the backyard.
We had to drive a little over an hour to wine country (or “adult juice” country as I know it) for the party. The drive was worth it though – the house was really beautiful and boy was I wrong about the pool!
And then we drove back to San Francisco…

Maile and I headed out for a walk yesterday afternoon and was able to update our “shadow” picture. My little girl is growing up fast!

I know my Daddy misses me so I decided tonight I would help him feel like he was back home with me. How best to do that? Well, by reading him a story of course!

I know we’ve already covered Maile’s 3rd Birthday, but the father of one of her classmates sent over some great pictures and I had to share…

Guess what? On Saturday, Mommy and Daddy took me to see Thomas the Train! Yep, the blue one. A bunch of my friends from school came too and Vincent and Hannah! We all went on a train car and Thomas took us on a ride – he’s a pretty busy train, so it was cool that he made time for us.
(Dad note: We were having so much fun we didn’t take a ton of pictures – if you can believe it, not a single shot of Maile with Thomas himself! Trust me though, this isn’t a visit she will soon forget – she had a blast!)

Meet Maile’s new pet, appropriately named “dog” (apparently 3 is a literal phase).
Dad note: Those who know me well, will find it funny that even mechanical dogs apparently like to sit at my feet.

Last year, it took a little work for Maile Girl to wish Grandma Jill a proper happy birthday…
This year, I could barely get the camera on before she started singing!
This is indeed a welcome improvement!

On Sunday we celebrated Maile’s birthday at a local park with all her friends. Mommy found a great face painter, Oliver, and Maile was VERY pleased that she got to go first! Maile also had a blast running around the playground with her friends and getting her pick of the cupcakes…
As you’ll see in the video, Maile was a bit overwhelmed by all the attention – but she had a great birthday party. Thanks to all of her friends that helped her celebrate!

A couple of months ago, Christine heard about a 5K coming to San Francisco called The Color Run. The premise is simple, every 1K throughout the route you run through an area where volunteers dose you with colored powder. They also hand out packets and you can through it all over yourself and other people. We thought it sounded like fun … and boy were we right!
We headed out to the run with a couple of Maile’s classmates. We looked like a commercial for Bob jogging strollers as we each had one. I was a little concerned that Maile wouldn’t be a huge fan of the colored powder, but that was quickly put to rest when she and her friends started throwing it all over. The first time we went through the color cloud, Maile turned to me and said “That was awesome!”
Unfortunately, Maile did take a tumble out of the stroller around the 3K mark. She wasn’t strapped in well and after we went through one of the colored clouds, she turned around to show me and fell out of the stroller when I jammed it on another runner’s foot. She was okay, some small cuts on her nose and forehead and a few minutes of tears. The excitement did wear her out though and she ended up falling asleep for the last 2K – yes, Maile finished the race, fast asleep in her stroller!
