A good friend passed away four years ago tomorrow (Monday the 21st). He loved the Doors and a few days before he passed I was with him for an epic karaoke performance of “Roadhouse Blues” – the song will always be one of the ways I remember him. I decided to teach Maile the song tonight – she picked it up right away (I think because she really liked the “duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-ANAH” part … and I was bouncing her on my knee).
In any event, the whole thing cracked me up and definitely good to have some laughs on a day like today. I also hope that by posting here, Maile asks me for the back story one day – he’s a friend I look forward to telling her about.

Maile’s getting pretty good with the camera. Once she learns how to type a bit better, I’m turning the blog over to her completely!
Say "cheese" daddy!
Say "cheese" Maile!
Have a great weekend!
On Sunday, we headed out bright and early to check out the new Dolores Park Playground. We heard it could be a bit of a madhouse – luckily, our daughter wakes up at 6 AM, so we were there, ready to rock, at 8:15 AM!
Harold and Madeleine came to join us as well and Maile had a great time running all over the park. It really is a great playground (and as a heads up, the crowds started arriving around 9:15 AM).
Madeleine, Harold and Maile eating some snacks to build up some energy for the playground...
Mommy, this is a little wobbly...
The park is really cool as it has all these creative pieces built into the landscape for the kids to play around on and explore...
Maile Girl hasn't been the bravest when it comes to slides lately - so Daddy is showing her it's no big deal. She started off screaming at the top, but I'm pretty sure that's a smile on her face...

Today was a big day for my company – we rebranded from Read It Later to Pocket and announced a whole new product line. It’s something we’ve been working really hard at for the past 6 months and the launch went great!
Best part was that Daddy got to come home from work a bit early for a change (I’ve been working pretty late hours the past week especially and missing Maile Girl before bed time). Maile and I got a chance to show off our new Pocket t-shirts!
I promise you I'm smiling just as big on the inside - my face just can't show it right now!
(Dad note #1: If the picture of me above is a little disconcerting, you must have missed this post from yesterday 😉
(Dad note #2: If you are interested in reading more about Pocket, We received some great press coverage today. I haven’t had a chance to digest it all, but you can read some here and here.)
I had this weird thing happen to me this weekend where the right side of my face became paralyzed. Turns out it is something called Bell’s Palsy. Good news is that while incredibly uncomfortable, it will go away.
My right eye doesn’t close very well so I’ve been wearing an eye patch. Yes, Daddy is a pirate.
I had to work late today, but Maile decided that I needed a “treasure hat” to go with my patch. And she also decided she wanted to be a pirate too. Can’t tell you how much love this picture made me feel!
Daddy isn’t feeling so great – so just a quick shot before heading to bed…
This face already makes Daddy feel a little better!
It’s been a long week for Daddy – he’s been really busy working on March Madness stuff.
Mommy and I have been taking good care of him though. In the video below, I’m helping him relax by reading him a story…

Maile may get most of her looks from her Mommy, but her ability to focus intently on the television definitely comes from Daddy…
Don't try to bother Maile or I when we are watching TV - we're focusing here!

It may not look like much, but this video actually represents a big step for Maile Girl. Maile hasn’t been the most … open … to touching new, strange things. But at the California Academy of Sciences this weekend, she was all excited to check out the Sea Stars* and she actually touched them!
Proof:
(*Dad note: My lovely wife informed me that they no longer call them Starfish – they are now Sea Stars. Why? Because they aren’t fish! You learn something new every day.)

Daddy told me that he had a headache tonight (that’s a fancy word for “owie on your head”). I immediately knew what to do – I went and got my penguin ice pack and taught Daddy how to hold it on his head. He said it felt a little better, but it wasn’t until I gave him a kiss that he said he felt all better. I guess my kisses are like medicine. (Dad note: Bad medicine, of course.)
