On Saturday afternoon, we headed down the peninsula to Palo Alto to celebrate Sam’s first birthday. It was great to see all of our friends that have moved down to Palo Alto – certainly miss seeing them all the time in the city. Christine took a ton of pictures – some highlights involving Maile Girl…
Fun on the big cement slide - so big that you needed to sit on a piece of cardboard to make it down...
Maile and Allison hadn't seen each other in months, but fell back into playing just like old times!
Daddy and Maile
Bubble time - behind the scenes note, Mommy blew the bubbles AND took the pictures. Such talent!
Maile made Sam a birthday card - she took giving it to him very seriously...
The whole group - our family of friends is definitely growing!
Party time!
Eating cake with Wills
And by eating, I mean shoving as much as possible into her mouth as fast as she can...
Well, heeeelloooo ladies. Welcome to my crib! Make yourself at home...
On Monday, we headed down to Palo Alto for a Labor Day BBQ at Wills’ house. Hannah, Allison, Sophie and Oliver (along with their parents) joined us as well. It was a pretty crazy scene with babies walking and crawling all over the place (or being carried in the case of little Oliver).
The BBQ was fun, but the real excitement came when we tried to take a group picture. Here’s the final result:
Mommies and babies - Labor Day 2010
Not too bad. Here’s the behind-the-scenes of how it all came together…

Hannah’s dad, Josh, takes MUCH better pictures than I do. He sent over his shots from the Three Amigas birthday party and I thought I’d share. See the slideshow below. (And yes, I ordered a book from Amazon so I can learn to take better pictures!)
My friend Wills met us at the Stanford football game. I always have fun seeing Wills, but he does play a little rough…
My friend, Wills, gets a little excited around me - I keep trying to tell him that he needs to play it cool to attract my interest, but I don't think he gets it yet. Ah, boys.
Easy tiger, that's my eye...
Okay, we're playing it rough? Take that tough guy!
In addition to daddy’s birthday, Sunday was also Super Bowl Sunday. Since football is the only thing I’m allowed to watch on TV at this point, I was very excited for the big game. (Dad note: it’s true, we don’t Maile watch TV quite yet, but we turn a blind eye if a football game happens to be on…)
Even better than being able to watch TV, our friends Randall and Shalyn threw a big Super Bowl party and I got to see my good friends, Hannah, Allison and Wills! We were so busy playing with each other that we barely watched the game – but I was very happy with the outcome. And even cooler, Uncle Alex organized a Super Bowl prop contest. I asked daddy to help me fill out my entry and guess what? I won! $55 right into the piggy bank. Daddy says I’m a natural – I could tell he was quite proud of me. Woo hoo!
Wills brought over some footballs so we could get in the mood for the big game - I quickly grabbed all of them. I've been doing that lately btw - I pile up all the toys in front of me. Mommy and daddy say they are going to "work with me" on this tendency. I'm not sure if that means that will teach me new ways to steal the toys or make me share more - I hope its the former!
Wills started to get fresh again by trying to plant a kiss on me. I'm a little blurry in this picture because I'm employing some get away moves that daddy taught me.
Hannah (L), Allison (R) and me playing together. Hannah and I see each other every day, but it was great fun to play with Allison again - she can even crawl! How cool is that?
Congrats to the Saints on winning the Super Bowl - and me, of course, on winning the Super Bowl Prop contest!
For the past month and a half, Maile and mommy have been having play dates with some friends about once a week. It’s a great chance for the mommies to hang out and talk shop – and the babies like to … well, they pretty much do what they would do anyways: play, eat, cry and sleep. Sleep should actually be first in that list because invariably at least one of the babies is always asleep when they are hanging out. That is until yesterday – a milestone if you will – all the babies were awake at the same time!
We went to a party tonight to welcome Alex and Lisa B. back to San Francisco. They are friends of mommy and daddy’s. Alex actually has a blog too and he likes to make fun of my daddy when I hack into his Twitter account. Lisa is a pediatrician and has been an absolute life saver – my mommy and daddy have called her a few times with questions and she has been super helpful!
My friend, Wills, was at the party too. We had a great time playing together. He did start to get a little fresh though, much to the delight of everyone at the party:
To be honest, I think I was more scared by all the loud noises than anything Wills was doing. Plus I had my daddy there and he told Wills a few things and after that he was a perfect gentleman:
